Music Studio 2017, Windows 10, Focusrite Scarlett 2i2

I'm getting a lot of signal noise when using the Monitor function of the Scarlett 2i2. It's not loop-back noise, it's just bad signal noise. What am I doing wrong? Is there a way to use the Monitor function within Music Studio to bypass this or must I use the Focusrite Monitoring when doing multi-track recording? As far as I can tell, it's not printing the noise when rexcording.
