error with importing .MTS file videos

Sean101 wrote on 10/2/2010, 5:42 PM

When I try to import a .MTS file this message pops up: "This file format of (blah blah blah.MTS) cannot be read! Please make sure that the drive is not full or write-protected. If you do not have the authorization to write or read from this path, please contact the administrator." what might be happening?

I tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling it and that came to no success.

here is some more info to help out anyone who answers this:

My Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus (MEP15P) is not able to read my video files. They are in .MTS file format. I know that it is able to read these files because it could play them before. Now all of a sudden, the editor program cannot even read the video files. I have done nothing different. The only thing is that MEP15P requested to be updated. After the update it has not been able to run the format.
I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the program, different file locations for the videos, and even tried to check the codecs by going to File-> Export Movie-> Video as MPEG4. it went straight to exporting an old clip which makes me think that the codec is not the problem. I also tried to activate the codec via the method listed in step 2 on the suggestions when sending an email to the tech support team, but my Editor is probably layed out different because I could not click on any "order online" anywhere within the Help-> Activate Additional Funtions-> Activate MPEG4-> Order Online method (There wasn't even an "Activate Additional Functions after "Help" but once I found it there wasn't any "Activate MPEG4" or "Order online" anywhere). I know that the Editor can run .AVI but I don't have any converter. Please let me know what other methods I can do, I would really apprieciate that.

MTS is a AVCHD file, high quality format. I have Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus, and I am able to import the MTS file, I tried the update and the program said I was running the latest version. What version oare you running (looking at the Help, "About Movie Edit Pro...")

Are you reading the file from the computer drive or from the camera?

Have you installed anything new, even if it seems insignificant?

How much free disc space do you have?

Sorry, but this is basically a user-to-user forum, and I am not as technical as I would like to be. Since I cannot get my product to similate or recreate the problem you are having, I am finding it difficult to locate any help for you.

I am using Movie Edit Pro 17HD Plus now, but I have tried this in Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus and it loads fine. (I actually have MEP 15, 16, 17 installed on my laptop now testing some of the claims that have been brought up in this forum). Within MEP 15 I am prompted that the file may not play back smoothly because the file is very large, I can convert it, yet I do not. It then asks if I want to adjust the project to the video ratio and resolution, so yes I adjust. It then asks if I want Half or Full resolution, I pick full.  I have a Canon Vixia HG20 as well as a Sony Exmor R HDR-XR500. Both capture into .MTS, both work fine with my Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus, which is version 8.6.1.0 (C1)... this differs from what you have stated, but perhaps a reinstallation reverted it back to a previous release?

Since this is a user-to-user forum, you may not get the answers you're expecting. I do try my best because I simply love the Movie Edit Pro product line, but alas, I may not have information that is useful becuase I cannot replicate the problem, so I have no way to work the problem.

Here is my computer builds:

Laptop: HP Pavilion dv6

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium version 6.1.7600 Build 7600

Processor: AMD Turion II Ultra Dual-Core Mobile M640, 2600 Mhz, 2 Core

RAM: 4 GB

Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 Series

Sound: ATI High Definition Audio Device

Hard Drive: 500 GB (312.99 Free)

Desktop: Home Built

Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista 64 Professional

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo - E8500 @ 3166 Mhz

RAM: 4 GB

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 (1 GB)

Sound: HD Integreated Sound

Hard Drive: 900 GB (15.07 Free)

I have imported both from the hard drive, and from the camera itself, both work on both systems. If nothing new has been added or updated on your system then I suspect that the initial update you did for the program may have caused an issue. I would try again, updating so you have Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus (V 8.6.1.0 C1).

I am not sure that since I have the new products installed that it may have forced compatibility. I am not sure, You may need to contact support to see what they have to say.
