When you plug int in to ......What ?   a PC USB port ?....does thae 8 track require AC/ DC to run ? 
Why are you using such an old contraption with Samp ?  Are you sure the 8 track still works ?

You're going to have to be more specific than that.  Which MODEL of Zoom recorder are you using.  Without knowing that, all we can say is you may have to update the software/firmware and/or driver.

plugged into the USB port on the pc and of course it still works. its a Zoom HD8.

If i am reading the device description correctly you cannot use it to record to the computer. 

The recording is stored in the HD 8 and when you plug it in it should appear as another disc drive which you can browse and copy the recordings from to the PCasnd then use them in usic Studio
