DVD will not play in Samsung Blu-ray player

tmichaelwall wrote on 12/1/2014, 10:16 PM

The NTSC DVD project (not a Blu-ray project) that I have made with Photostory 2015 Deluxe with not play in a regular Toshiba DVD player nor a Samsung Blu-ray player.  It does, however, play on my Windows 7 HP computer.  I used a 16:9 aspect ration on this project as many of my photos are in this format.  The Toshiba returns an error message that the disc is for a PAL system.  I checked the setting and it is not.  The project is on a DVD-RW disc.  My old version of PhotoStory on CD & DVD 9 Deluxe never had this problem.  I do not believe this is a hardware problem with my players as they work perfectly as do all previous DVDs made with version 9.  As near as I can tell the settings for the project are correct.  Any suggestions?

Hi

. . . . I do not believe this is a hardware problem with my players as they work perfectly as do all previous DVDs made with version 9 . . . .

Then if there was no error in the encoding / burning the problem is with the disc.

Try another disc or brand / type - I use Verbatim for DVD-RW with no issues.

Hi

. . . . to a regular Ativa DVD-R.  Same problem.  When I try to play it in the Blu-ray player, the error message says "this disc will not play.  Check system" . . .

Did this play OK in the Toshiba DVD player?

. . . . Ativa DVD-R . . . .

Try using a different manufacturer of discs, eg Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Sony, Maxell, TDK

Not exactly sure how this message system works but here goes.  To answer your question, the DVD disc burned with Photostory 2015 would not play in either my Toshiba DVD player or in my Samsung Blu-ray player.

Since my last message I have tried numerous "test projects" on several makes and types of DVD discs.  Any DVD that I burn in PhotoStory 2015 will not play on the Samsung Blu-ray player or the Toshiba DVD player.  I did burn a test project in AVCHD format onto a DVD-RW disc and it worked flawlessly in the Samsung Blu-ray player.  BTW all of these DVD projects burned with PhotoStory 2015 play on my HP Windows 7 computer, they just will not play on my DVD players.

After another try this evening, in frustration I opened the same test project into my older version of the program, PhotoStory on CD & DVD 9 Deluxe.  I burned the test project to a Memorex DVD-RW.  It played perfectly on the Samsung Blu-ray player.

There is a problem with the software or perhaps a setting.  It is not in my machines.  I could not help but notice that the photo rendition for the test project in Photostory 2015 is superior to my older version.  So now I have purchased the upgrade and it will not work.  Please help as I need to produce something as gifts for my children at Christmas and do not wish to leave it to the last minute.

Hi Michael

Thanks for those tests.

. . . . perhaps a setting. . . . .

Possibly if you are getting successful burns and no error messages. Are you using, as close as possible, the same settings for the DVD menu and burn settings ?

Can you post a screen shot of the Windows Explorer view of the folder structure of one of the discs that will not play in the players.

Can you locate the folder that Photostory is putting the DVD files, it will probably be called Disc Images or similar - you should be able to find thewhere the folder is by looking at Photostory's folder paths in the programs settings.

You should see a two folders called Audio_TS and Video_TS - try burning these as a DVD to DVD -RW using another disc burning program eg Nero or ImgBurn (free).

Hi John,

Here is the image file of the directory of my Christmas project I am making for my children.  I will try burning these files using Nero and let you know what results.

Hi John,

Ok, I burned the files for my PS 2015 test project using Nero.  The Toshiba DVD and Samsung Blu-ray players would not play the disc!  I then burned my PS v9 test project (duplicate project to above)  using Nero and it played perfectly on both.  Both discs played on my HP Windows 7 computers.

I have checked the DVD menu settings and they appear to be the same as the burn menu.

What next?  And BTW, thanks for the help.

Hi John,

I have not heard from you and my last post was Dec. 6.  Do you have any suggestions?  I am very frustrated.  I burned the large PS 15 project with PS 9.  It worked perfectly.

I have purchased this newer version and it does not work.  What is the procedure for getting a refund?

Hi Michael

Apologies for not seeing your posts - I flew out on holiday a few days after your post and have just seen it - odd I never got any notification of your posts, this is not unusual for the forum software at times.

The folder structure you posted looks correct and complete, so MEP is creating it correctly.

I would suspect the discs you are using are not consistent - have you tried a different brand and DVD-RW ?
