Disc Space

lynns wrote on 6/23/2015, 8:10 AM

That screen has popped up after putting several other new discs in to be burned, however every single time I do, the same message appears as in the screenshot. I adapted the bitrate to a longer playback time/lower quality setting and the bar will show that after I've changed the settings, I've condensed it enough to where I should have sufficient space. But about 10 seconds after I insert the new disc and try burning it again- that window pops up. Suggestions? This is a wedding DVD I need done within the next few days, before I fly internationally to Europe for 3 weeks and won't be able to access any of my business projects.

Hi, I do not use this same product, but the popup asks you to insert a CD, why would you be burning a CD when a DVD would hold so much more and play on so many more divices.

Edit:      if it is a CD you wish to burn, then there are 750 or 800 Mb ones available, Though you probably know there are over heads invovled, meaning you can not put 500 mb on a 500mb disc, the overheads depend on the file structure and complexity of the project and will reduce the available space on any given disk.

Kind regards, johnp

Like Trying has asked, I too would like to know why the message screen speaks of a CD but I also see behind the message something which I have never seen when exporting to disc from any version of VPX (I currently have 5, haven't upgraded to anything later yet because I still run 32 bit Win7):  I see that the export process is currently at "Cut 10 of 18".  Those are very high numbers (I think the more normal maximum is "x of 6").

So, what does this project consist of that requires an export to be done in 18 steps?

As to the problem of disk space, did you try the "Adapt Bit Rate" setting to allow the whole project to be burned to a standard DVD?  Though I have to say I think there is a real possibility of serious quality loss due to the decreased bit rate of what is clealry quite a large project.  Is there any reason why you cannot use Dual-Layer DVDs?

Hi

In addition to Jeff's comment about the number of cuts:-

How many movies are in this project,  ie how many seperate timelines?

What is the total movie length?

Are there a very high number of chapters in the project?

Hi, Trying –
I’m not sure why it reads ‘CD’ when I clearly selected the choice for DVD, and have only had DVD-R and DVD-RW’s burned. So I’m not burning a CD, but for some odd reason, Magix is calling the disc a ‘CD’.
Hi, Emmrecs –
I’m on VPX 5 as well (6 & 7 have not yet proven to be worth the expense to upgrade due to the lack of difference… I personally believe they should create better chroma key settings like other non-linear editing softwares). Anyway, I did “adapt the bit rate”. In fact, that was the first step I did after realizing without doing so, I would not have enough space on the DVD. I could buy a Dual-Layer, however I use LightScribe discs, that inscribe labels directly onto the DVDs. That makes the DVDs look much more professional. I could use 2 DVDs, and split all the content into 2, but that would not only me more difficult, but I also would have to introduce a higher price to the client than what I previously had stated being the DVD price.

I’m not quite sure what I’ll do, but I truly appreciate the help and suggestions. Thank you.

Hi, John EB -

I have 7 "movies", all together. There are actually only a few chapters, considering the amount of footage I have.

The entire span/length of the whole project is 106 minutes.

Are you able to use dual layer dvd, am not up on the subject as this is my first attempt at video creation.

Kind regards, johnp

You mention not wanting to upgrade VPX to 7 because you want better chroma key settings. Could you add to this comment in the VPX forum or open a new topic in the VPX forum about this? I would like to know what you would like and what other programs can do using chroma key that VPX does not.

Thanks,
