Digitising hi8 tapes - plays fine on camcorder but static on laptop

I can play the tape fine on the camcorder but when trying to digitise on magix rescue video tapes software it is static and jumpy, you can barely see the video. I have tried connecting via S-Video and Composite and the results are the same. I have updated drivers and software. Please help!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Please do not duplicate post on the same issue - I have closed the other post.

We need more information:

  1. Laptop specification and Windows version- see this topic for details required.
     
  2. Program version and is it up to date.
     
  3. USB video capture device - colour and any markings on it.
     
  4. . . . . when trying to digitise on magix rescue video tapes software it is static . . . .

    is this on video, audio or both.
     
  5. Capture settings used.

Assuming you mean when you play the tape in the camera it can be seen in the Preview in Video Easy, if so that means the video converter is working correctly.

I suspect the issue is the Inspiron, although it appears to meet the minimum specifications required, is not powerful enough to keep up with the video transfer rate - are you capturing at standard DVD quality or a custom setting?.

Do you have a PC which you can try recording with?

Apologies - I have amended my first post. The tape plays fine in the camcorder but not on the laptop. In the preview window it is static and jumpy. I am capturing at standard DVD quality yes. I have tried on two different PCs. I have tried different cables too. So I assume it is an issue with the MAGIX Usb or software but I can't work it out!

That does suggest the problem is with the Video Converter, how old is it ? If it is less than 1 year old I would suggest you contact Magix through the Support link at the top of the page - see this guide on how to navigate the support system -

The only way to know for certain is to try a different one, however if you do decide to buy one get a good branded one such as Terratec or Elgato.
