Definite Issues with Pro X

fthomas137 wrote on 9/7/2017, 6:41 PM

Good day and yes this is going to be a gripe message.

I've been back and forth several times with the support people but have gotten zero resolution on several issues and I'm posting to the community hoping you may have an answer for one of my issues.

First, I've got a smokin GTX 1070 video card and would love to use the hardware to speed up mp4 processing but I cannot for love or money make it work.

Second, When creating DVD's the menu's are not very sharp. There was a deviation in X7 to the engine to create DVD's and the ability to choose a higher resolution was lost.

Third, I want to change the background color when selecting items on a dvd menu, but if I use Photoshop to edit the dvd layer file, it will not re-import into Pro X and if I use Xara, it changes the names of the layers breaking it in Pro X.

Any ideas guys?

Hi, welcome to the forum

First, I've got a smokin GTX 1070 video card and would love to use the hardware to speed up mp4 processing but I cannot for love or money make it work.

Magix's programs can not utilise the Hardware encoding of discreet video cards other than to parallel process some of the video effects during rendering, by ticking the "Calculate Video Effects on GPU" in the Export Settings box. Depending on your project content and system specs., this can provide some time gains during export but in some cases it can lose some time.

HW encoding in MEP or VPX is only available on Intel CPU's with integrated GPU via Quicksync.

Search this forum and you will find much discussion on HW encoding.

Some others here who make DVD's may be able to comment on your 2 other points.

Hi

. . . . When creating DVD's the menu's are not very sharp. . . . .

Are you using the HD versions of the menu templates?

Note:

If you are creating DVD's and viewing them on a HD TV (1920 x 1080 or higher) or monitor then they will not be very sharp. This is due to the low resolution of DVD which is 720 x x480 pixels for NTSC and 720 x 576 for PAL depending on your TV system standard.

The quality of the image is also dependant on the quality of the upscaling software in the PC or the firmware in the player.

Ss, thanks for the definitive answer - it sucks but it is what it is.

John, in version X6, I used to get sharp results - sharp in comparison to what X7 and onward gives. How do I ensure I've chosen an HD template? I do know that my template is 16x9 and the graphics background starts out at 1920x1080 pixels. And I do realize that the DVD resolution is 720x480. But I think X is outputting at 1/2 that again.

Hi

. . . . How do I ensure I've chosen an HD template? . . . .

They are in the sections marked as Static HD . . . . and Animated HD . . . . of the 16:9 templates

However, I asked if you were using a HD template - if you are the issue could be caused by the rescaling, of the 1920x1080 images or video used by the HD template, down to 720 x 480 and the different pixel ratios.

HD pixels are square, DVD widescreen (16:9) pixels are rectangular and conversion from one to the other can cause softening of the image.

Try using a non HD template from the 16:9 collection.
