cutting scenes in edit 16 plus

I have a very basic question on deleting a scene.  I just want to
delete some footage but don't know what  Iam doing wrong.

Let's say I want to delete 5 seconds of footage from the start of the footage.  When I start the playback and press the spacebar to approximately when I want to stop, the marker goes all the way back to the begining and I can't tell what the time code is when I stopped the playback.  So I have to kind of
guess and use the delete start function.  This doesn't seem right.  I
would think I should be able to tell where I am on the timecode and how
far in I have gone, but I don't see the timer and the marker goes all
the way back to the start of the footage.

I used to have MEP 14 and the manual says to do the "T" method but that doesn't seem to work in MEP 16 Plus. This seems such an obvious task but I can't get it to work.  Maybe it didn't install properly?

How can I delete simple scenes?

This is how I do these...

First, you need to understand handles, as these are the key to precise editing.

Now, I made the basic object shot in the image above, never mind that it is a audio file, the handles represent the same thing for this edit.

You might want to zoom into the project to see more, that is up to you. Since you want to delete the beginning part, you can select the object, so it is highlighted orange, then left click and hold the left "Stretch" handle and start moving the mouse pointer to the right, you should at the same time in the preview monitor, the exact frame you are on as you move to the right...

That makes for brilliant editing precision.

You can do the same in reverse with the right "Stretch" handle but dragging left...

If you needed something in the center you could use the cut scene or razor blade icon to make a cut and use the left right handles again...

It is simple once you have done it once, and at least for me, became my editing choice for starting since it is non destructive... meaning I could save the project come back to it weeks later, and reposition that handle again, because the original video is never touched or destroyed...

Hope that helps
