Does this happen with PCM files or just lossy file types (MP3 AAC, AC3, ect)?

Otherwise, select the "Options" menu and enable 'Seek Cursor on Playback, 'Scroll Playback' and 'Scroll Smoothly'. . Also in 'Options', select "Position" in "Time Display. "But since you state the playback meters do not show anything either, I don't know if these settings will help.
If that is the case, try *resetting Sound Forge and check-mark "Delete all cached app data' option. (*reset command in the 'File' menu).

btw, welcome to the Magix Sound Forge users forum @Douglas-Schaub.

Oddly enough I came back to the same project and the problem went away. The cursor & the VUs are working fine now. I hope this isn't a random bug. I am working with a 30 day trial version of SF Pro 15. I was happy with SF Pro 10 until random bugs started creeping into it.

I wish that were the case with my SFP-10. It's very frustrating to start a recording...finish... only to find it never recorded! Everything looks normal during the recording but, when you stop there is no waveform in the timeline! Shutdown SFP-10 and open it again and it MAY record...it may not.

Only until you see the "unsaved file recovery" message (which is doesn't open) can you be assured you will be able to record.

I know of one other SFP-10 user going through the same issue. He rolls the dice and records a short piece before hand.

In general, if you are experiencing a recording or playback issue, the problem is usually related to your sound card's driver.

You haven't mentioned which sound card you're using, or which driver you have selected under the SF OPTIONS>PREFERENCES> AUDIO TAB. That's where you should start to troubleshoot. Start by selecting the ASIO driver if available for your particular sound card, then change to Windows Classic Wave if not, then onto the Microsoft Sound Mapper driver. Typically the most problematic driver selection is the default "Microsoft Sound Mapper" driver selection or sometimes depending on the developer the ASIO driver. If none of those changes of the driver being used fixes the problem, then you need to look into seeing if your sound card has a driver update available.

As rraud mentions, SF is pretty robust at this point in audio playback and recording for most users, which points to a problem on your particular setup which are typically Sound Card driver related.

If none of the sound card driver selections/updates fixes the problem, then look into updating your video card driver since problem video card drivers have been known to cause audio issues as well.

As a final option, google "ASIO4ALL driver", and install that driver on your system and select to use that in Sound Forge. That's a pretty robust sound card driver at this point and tends to work well for most all sound card devices, thus the name.

It seems that this cursor issue appears on Sound Forge 12 and Sound Forge 15 also. In my case it happens only when I move a toolbar from the top and place it back again. If I right click on the timeline as Douglas said, it appears back, but when I deactivate this right click the cursor disappears again. It resolves only if I restart Sound Forge. I have opened another thread with this topic because I did not found any solution to it. As I said there I have tested both versions 12 and 15 on different PCs with different configurations. It is the same on all of my PCs.

@Marius-Itimovici

This bug should be fixed with the next update for SFP 15, which should be released in the next weeks.

It has already been fixed in the Sound Forge Audio Studio 15 KA3 patch (build57):

https://www.magix.info/de/forum/new-update-sound-forge-audio-studio-15-ka3-build-57--1281198/

If you like, i'd would be happy, if you could check, if the bug is gone in this version.

Please use a trial version to check this out. Thank you!

We're very sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you! That would be great! 😊

I don't get cursor scrolling during playback unless I right click on the timeline or click a menu item, then I see the cursor move and VU meters resume. Otherwise no cursor movement and frozen VU meters during playback.

Hello how are you, I found the solution by chance in my Sound Forge 15 Suite and I think it also works for all versions... the solution is the following...

1. Because sometimes we tuck the toolbar by selecting each one by placing it on the edge or wherever they like, that causes the cursor to crash, if the last one tucked away from the toolbar, they move it off the edge and the They delete it and that's it, it goes back to normal... I'm going to try to make a tutorial on YouTube, if they ask me I'll do it, that's how it's better understood... Regards to all, my email just in case Email removed by Moderator

@Peter-Fort

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Unfortunately your first post here is asking about a different problem to the one raised by the original questioner and so is really irrelevant to that question! This is often described as "hijacking" a topic.

Please do not do this, but rather create a new thread with your question, ensuring you include full detail of exactly which version and edition of SF you have, thank you.

Your post in this thread has been hidden.

Select the "Options" menu and enable 'Seek Cursor on Playback,

EUREKA! I could get into this cursor mode by accident and loved it. Sad when it would be lost. In all my searching for help, I could never find the setting until today. I have hundreds of audio files to validate and this gets me into top gear. THANK YOU!
