Crackling & Choppy Audio Playback

Hi,

When I'm recording VHS video using a Terratec Grabster AV300MX unit by using the MAGIX Video Easy (Terratec software version) the picture is good but the sound is crackling at play-back. When listening to the audio from the computer during recording the audio is fine but once I go into the edit mode the audio starts crackling with choppy playback after approximately 10 seconds especially at high pitch and normal to louder sound and it is still the same after saving the file to the computer.

When checking for driver updates it says I already have the latest version.

I have tried to lower the audio sample rate but still the same issue.

I have tested the unit on 2 different computers but the audio issue still remains.

Information about my system:

- Terratec Grabster AV300MX: Driver: 10.0.10764.0, File version: 10.0.19041.1 (WinBuild: 160101.0800)

- MAGIX Video Easy: 5.0.3.111

- HP with Intel core i5-4440 CPU @ 3.1 GHz running Windows 10 version 21H2

- Intel HD Graphics 4600 (GT2) integrated graphics (I removed the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 since it broke)

- Sound controller: IDT High Definition Audio CODEC, Driver: 6.10.6504.0

I think you need to look at the Terratec page for the Grabster Video AV300MX Easy version supplied to work with the Grabster. It only supports up to Windows 8. This is a question best asked at Terratec as the Grabster may not be able to be compatible with newer versions of Video Easy.

I note the new version of Grabster does not use an additional program but renders VHS video direct to PC.

Ray, sorry for being picky but...

Your first link is to the incorrect product. Viking has a 300MX. The second link doesn't work.

Given that there is a Windows 10 driver for the capture box, it follows that Video Easy should run on Windows 10 too. It doesn't say that Windows 10 isn't supported by VE. I suspect that Win 10 wasn't even out when VE 5.03.111 was published (2015). But as we all know, many programs, including Magix video programs, can run happily on later operating systems.

I do agree with Ray re getting onto Terratec. They should have had other reports by now if recent Windows updates have messed up either the grabber or VE.

I'm not familiar with Video Easy but can you record the audio via your sound card ie VCR audio direct to soundcard and capture that with VE while you route the video through the grabber. Possibly the Advanced button on the Analogue Video screen (if there is one; I'm looking at the VE "HD" manual).

And if you're up to it ie a bit nerdy, you could try capturing with a completely different (free) program just to confirm it's the grabber or not. Let us know.

My worry was the supported drivers with the supplied version of Video Easy.
