Corrupted mvp file

profilaxagm wrote on 3/29/2022, 5:24 PM

Hi

When I tried to save the project, the program crashed.

After I ended task, I couldn't load the project anymore, only the outdated mvp_old_old file what the program created automatically.

The error message:

"The file format of {Path}\MyProject.mvp cannot be read."

Why this happened (not the first time), how to avoid?

Is there any way to restore the corrupted file?

Hi.

Why this happened (not the first time), how to avoid?

I find it is best to save the project before closing and waiting for the 'do you want to save this project' box to appear. I think the program will shut down before the file has completed writing when saving if you shut the program first. The more alterations made during a session, the more data has to be recorded at each save.

Is there any way to restore the corrupted file?

Not to my knowledge.

If you are worried it is best to save manually after each significant editing change you have made. Alternate between two tiles. Say Version A and B. That way you lose the least amount of alterations should a crash occur.

I'm pretty certain both your graphics drivers are older versions. You should check them out on the vendors websites.

Ray.

Ray, it appears that that is what they did:

Try restoring one of the backup files:

File>Load Backup Project. Hopefully, you'll see a list of the 10 backup files for your project. Choose the latest one.

If your project isn't shown in that list (as occasionally happens), the backups may have ended up somewhere else. Search your computer for .MV_ files. They are the Magix project backup files.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

@CubeAce

Thank You for the answer.

I installed the latest driver for UHD750: 30.101.9805

I save the project fairly often, after every change.

What happens, is a never ending saving process - the program freezes, and the message box shows 0%.

After I installed the driver, nothing has changed.

At the momment I try to set markers in the source monitor on a scene from project folder, the program crashes.

Saving two versions of project file seems a great idea.

And what if the file get corrupted?

Then the only way remined using the autogenerated backup, wich in my case was missing.

H Al.

You also get the option to save if you just close the program. Which one do you think was meant?

I wasn't sure which was meant. If anyone has ever opened MEP or VPX and then started something and and decided not to continue and just closed the program then they are aware of the save, not save option at shutdown. Once aware it would be easy for anyone to assume this is a reliable feature to be used instead of saving before hitting shutdown. Alternating a project by name with each successive save ensures most of the time that at least the last but one save worked. I don't get that many crashes unless I've hit save after close-down. Something I now never do.

profilaxagm do you have save project automatically checked in the program setting system tab, I always have backup files made by the program in my case, but I always wonder when MEP originate the ( _BAK0.MV_ ) files, I don't know if that has something to do but always have save project automatically checked in 10 minutes.

I unchecked the "save project automatically", because it usually breaked the editing in the key moments.

Maybe worth to check "save automatically" again, to have the backup files?

(Until the crashing problem will be solved).

A most definite, resounding YES! Unless this is active NO backups of your project will ever be created.
