Connection to activate license is not working

After having entered the serial number an error message pops up : "An online connection could not be established. Please make sure that your computer is correctly connected to the internet. A firewall may also be blocking access".

I have turned off the virus checker temporarily and the firewall but it made absolutely no difference.

Any ideas ?

I wondered if it was an issue of the original software now being out of date and so I downloaded the recent trial version and it would not even begin to install even though I was running the installation program as an Administrator.

The lack of details in the popup dialog was disappointing and unhelpful.
