I don't know what sort of cord you have, but if you have a DV-camera, you need a Firewire (IEEE1394) cord for the transferring.
You don't tell us which program you use.

What the previous poster said is correct. In order to make any statement as to why it's not working, we will really need more details about your camera here.

By "pitchfork", you probably mean the USB symbol. This could mean two things:

1.) You have a DV camera (miniDV or HDV, tape-based) that also features a USB connection. In this case the connection wouldn't be suitable for DV capture in Magix video software and most video editing solutions, for this matter. Look for the FireWire/IEEE1394 connection, get a suitable cable and hook that up to your computer.

2.) You don't have a miniDV tape based camera. You have a different kind of camera that records to another type of medium (e.g. internal hard drive or solid state memory). This means you don't require any capture/recording process in the video program. You just need to use your file browser to copy the video files on the camera across to your computer's hard drive (via the USB link) and then file-import them into the video program.

This info might help. Let us know if you need more help, but please provide more details about your camera and your software.
