Compatability

I previously had Windows 7.  I used Windows Live Movie Maker to edit videos.  Then I used Microsoft DVD Maker to burn DVDs using DVD-RW disks.  When I upgraded to Windows 10, I discovered that Microsoft DVD Maker was not supported.  I purchased MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2015.  I used MAGIX to assemble a video of .wmv files edited with Movie Maker complete with four chapters.  I burned DVDs which work with my Panasonic DVD Home Theater Sound System.  However, they don’t work with my son’s DVD player or my RCA tv with a built-in DVD player.  The DVD player gives a “WRONG DISC TYPE” error and spits out the DVD.

When I click the BURN icon and click burn options, the default boxes that are checked are:  “DVD-compatible write at least 1GB” and “Turn on burner defect management.”  When I click to start the burn process, a dialog box with the header “VTS_01_1.VOB – Should the existing file be used for the film ‘Melody’s Day’”?  I have experimented with checking various check boxes with the same unsuccessful results.  What combination of boxes should I check so that my DVDs can play in any DVD player.   I never experienced compatibility problems with DVDs burned with Microsoft DVD Maker.

Hi

. . . . I burned DVDs which work with my Panasonic DVD Home Theater Sound System.  However, they don’t work with my son’s DVD player or my RCA tv with a built-in DVD player.  The DVD player gives a “WRONG DISC TYPE” error and spits out the DVD. . . . .

This is most likely a disc compatability issue with the players - not all players support DVD-RW discs.

Once you have burned to DVD-RW and it works OK in your Panasonic try copying it to  use DVD -R discs of a good branded quality and test in the other players.

As I stated above "I never experienced compatibility problems with DVDs burned with Microsoft DVD Maker."  All the videos I created were on the same discs I am using now. I sent the DVDs out to family members with a wide variety of DVD players and all DVDs played.

I do not consider having to make this extra effort to burn a standard DVD when I think a patch is needed.

I found this information string below.

http://www.magix.info/us/dvd-created-on-mep2015-pro-will-not-play-on.knowledge.1120389.html

I got the latest update and followed the recommended steps and still get the same error.

I think you missed the point of my reply - if you are getting a successful burn and the disc plays fine on your Panasonic player then there is nothing wrong with the program or the discs that play.

Therefore the problem is either with the compatability of the discs with the other players or an option in the burning being set which produces an incompatible disc.

What brand of discs are you using?

What settings are you selecting when you are burning the disc?

Which DVD menu template are you selecting?

Are you sending family the disc that plays in your player or are you making copies of it ?

If making copies, which program are you using to copy the disc?

Is there a reason for using DVD-RW discs ?
