I'm using Magix Studio 2025 Platinum Version 24.0.1.221 (UDP3).

All I am wanting to do is be able to click on any imported file and any place on the timeline and it automatically progress the preview window accordingly.

I do NOT want to have to click on the unsidedown arrow above the project and drag it to where I want it. That is a very clunky way of advancing the preview.

How do you do this on this program?

Thank you Gid I will check that out immediately. I cannot swear to how I got this current program but it seems to me it was an "upgrade" option that popped up upon opening the my Sony Vegas program - but I could honestly be wrong about that. At any rate, I "thought" this program was the Magix company's answer to Vegas' movie studio suite and therefore would be a pretty tame transition, but I couldn't have been more wrong. I truly appreciate your response and will check it out.

Mark, you have indeed been conned but to answer your question, click anywhere just above the timeline (in amoungst the timecode) and the playback marker will jump to that position. You do not need to drag it.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

@Mark-Woodson

Hi Mark.

No, this is not even the Vegas forums which still exists. The link to that set of forums can be found at the very bottom of this page.

It's just that the Vegas development team dropped Vegas Studio from their product line and the parent company Magix, who now owns the current Vegas product line, decided to rebrand the name of their similar price point editing suite from Movie Edit Pro to Magix Movie Studio and offer it as a replacement and labelled it an 'Upgrade'.

You are correct and a pop-up ad does come up as an upgrade offer from previous Vegas Studio versions which I feel is wrong and a better worded offer using the word replacement should be the pop-up add with an additional link to what Vegas now offers which is normally a much more expensive alternative to buy or 'upgrade to' but keeps within the Vegas product line.

While the limited time offer at Humble Bundle is initially a much cheaper and valid/legal way of getting back into owning a newer but not the latest Vegas Software version, future upgrade offers will be much more expensive as you will now be using their Pro range of video editing software. You will also need to have another. different forum account for the Vegas Creative forums to ask future questions about using Vegas Pro, as those programs are not covered on this forum site.

Ray.

I have to say that this forum is awesome. I have never received such quick help that actually addressed my questions in any other software forum. My honest thanks to all of you! I did Google the Vegas Pro EDIT from Humble and for $30 its hard to beat so I got it. I KNOW I am infinitely more familiar with that format having watched some videos of people using it. I totally recognized nearly everything in that software so thank you Gid for that connection and link. Also thank you CubeAce for the thoughtful insight that future upgrades will be at a higher price point. At least at this point I'll have some time to set aside for it.

@Mark-Woodson Your new VP21 Edit is several years newer than your old VMSP15 so should serve you for some time. As for future upgrades being at a higher price point Humble purchases of Magix and Magix Vegas products are usually eligible for upgrade pricing.

@Mark-Woodson

Hi Mark.

You are welcome and in some respects fortunate in your timing.

Magix does not often offer Vegas as part of a Humble Bundle offer. The last time being two years ago and the offers often last less than 30 days.

Note if you decided to pay less you don't get Vegas Pro Edit 21 as part of the bundle. Magix knows what the main draw to the bundle purchase is and a cheap way of getting into (or back into) the Vegas product line. Cheaper than either cross grading or upgrading via the Magix main website.

There are more than a few of us on this forum that use more than one video editing program and have no particular preference beyond which is the most usable for a given project as all programs have their strengths and weaknesses. Yes the current Magix Movie Studio would be an unfamiliar workflow to you and possibly harder to get to grips with if you are used to a different workflow but in some respects can be less hassle to use dependant on the project requirements once one gets used to the workflow of various different editing programs.

Personally @Gid and I have no preferences in that direction. We both use multiple video editors as do a few other people here. It's just that sometimes using the V word here may be as bad as saying Voldemort in a Harry Potter movie. 🤣🤣🤣

@CubeAce Hi, yep I do try to avoid the V word on here, but this VMS to MMS upgrade thing is a little frustrating, as you know there's been multiple people who have posted who have been,,, lets say mislead. Some it seems are ok with their 'upgrade' to MMS but after reading his other posts some like the OP @Mark-Woodson would simply be better off with VP21 & he's fortunate that the Humble offer is available.

I don't want to get into VP vs MMS, that's why I kept my orig comment brief, as you know I've had MEP/MMS for many yrs, the majority of my YT vids were made with MMS but after 5yrs personally I now find VP much more easier to use, like I say lets not go there.

Go look in the mirror & say Vegas Pro 3 times 👻😂

@Gid

Hi Gid.

In reply to your last question it should be the last build as when I got the 18 version from a Humble Bundle, I got the last build version of that program (527). I will know by the new year as I intend to get the current bundle sometime after Christmas.

My reason for using that program is its more integrated abilities working with OFX plugins where I find more capabilities and control. I find working with multiple video and picture tracks more convenient with MMS or VPX. Also often the deals on VPX and MMS come with more additional third party effects at a better price point and they port across to other Magix related products seamlessly once downloaded.

Between these programs there is little they can't do between them that Adobe products can and I am not paying out a monthly subscription for the privilege. Nor is it requisite to have to upgrade on a regular basis unless something comes along that would be of additional benefit, which for me at least tends not to be as often.

True, it has been a while. But when they have, it usually includes a Magix product. I'm wondering when the next Magix HB will be out.

HB was how I got into the Vegas software with VP14Edit and also into VPX12/14.

You always get the last build of the software when you download it. The last build was B315. And you can download any previous build from the Vegas user forum.

There are more than a few of us on this forum that use more than one video editing program and have no particular preference beyond which is the most usable for a given project as all programs have their strengths and weaknesses. For me, the biggest downside of MMS2024 is 10bit file handling. That is what VPX and VP are for, since I mostly shoot in that.

Personally @Gid and I have no preferences in that direction. We both use multiple video editors as do a few other people here. It's just that sometimes using the V word here may be as bad as saying Voldemort in a Harry Potter movie. 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, the "V" word has ruffled some feathers in the past for sure. But you are right, most people use more than one editing software. Each have their strengths the other doesn't have. Use what works the best for the video you are editing.
