I have some old VHS recordings of old television shows, and I just wondered if there’s a way to clean up/improve the quality of the picture? Either in MEP or VPX.
Jak, "cleanup"/"improve" is a very subjective thing. If you're talking about noise reduction, Neat Video is great, although it costs. It comes as a plugin for Magix and works seamlessly with Magix movies.
Otherwise, there are the colour correction effects, the Brightness/Contrast-Gamma effects and Sharpening effects.
Also, if your VHS recordings are Interlaced, set your movie to twice the files' frame rate and set the Object video properties to the correct field order to get good deinterlacing and smoother movement for MP4 exports.

Better still, if you have the videos on the timeline, do a File>Export Movie>JPEG and attach that here. 👍
Neat video the best!!! I have it since version 3.6 in pinnacle. Now I use it with Magix. It is fantastic. I would sooner change the editing program than give up Neat Video. I really recommend it not only for VHS recordings. I improve weddings and recordings in 4k at high ISO. You can buy and you will definitely not regret it. Best regards

+1 👍 for @Pawel-Rybinski suggestion, especially if you have a lot of VHS captures to clean up.
Do note NV does significantly slow down exports, this cannot be helped due the significant work load it imposes on the CPU/GPU.
