Chroma key and multicam together

bas-tenvelde wrote on 4/19/2017, 10:45 AM

Hi I just bought Magix video deluxe 2017 premium and have been playing with it for a while.

I've managed to use multicam and Chroma key to my liking. But have not been able to use them together. Is that even possible?

The problem I have is that the background image used with the chroma key isn't used when entering multicam. So in multicam I see the video's where the green is made black.

Grouping the backgroundlayer and chroma layer didn't work.

Is it possible to 'merge' them before rendering so the background is shown when activating multicam?

Or is the only option to render the chromatized video's and then use them in multicam modus?

Hi, and welcome to the Magix forums and to the wonderful world of Magix video editing!

I'm not entirely sure I fully understand what you are describing but I believe you're saying you have a multicam project (how many cameras?) where each camera was filmed against a green(?) screen. Is that correct?

Assuming it is (and this is not something I have ever needed to do so what I'm suggesting here is entirely "theoretical") I think I would create the multicam "mixdown" first, i.e. allow MEP to have the final video on tracks 1 and 2, the Master tracks, and then use the Chroma Key effect to screen out the background of each of the selected clips now on the Master tracks. Thus you use the chroma key only on the actual clips you intend to use rather than on all your original footage.

To add your "new" background, you would need to mute the audio and video of the multicam tracks and place that background on a lower track, thus MEP will "look upwards" through the tracks, from the lowest one first (the background) ignore the muted tracks and see the Master tracks.

Thank you for your suggestion Jeff. Yes you're right, I'm shooting with 2 cams from different angles against the green screen.

That I didn't think of using choma key on the mixed track! 😓 I'll try that thanks.

Hi

If I understand you correctly you can do this using your original method applying the Chromakey to the original videos on the lower tracks

  1. Run in multicam setting the appropriate clips you want.

  2. Exit multicam mode

  3. Move all tracks down 1, ensuring the source tracks are still muted

  4. Add your background to track 1.

Note:

  1. You cannot go back to multicam mode unless you remove the background on track 1 and move all tracks up again.

  2. If your background track is video and you want to use the audio from it you will have to mute the audio you do not require.

Also thanks Johne. It worked doing first the multicam and then the chroma key.

One downside was that all I had to set chroma key for every cam switch. Selecting chroma key for all fragments at once didnt work by just selecting them all and choosing the chroma key filter.

Hi

. . . . One downside was that all I had to set chroma key for every cam switch . . .

Agreed - applying the Chromakey as your original method can be quicker.
