1)VCR to DONGLE: Have tried all three possible options, scart cable supplied set to out. Three phono plugs from rear of video to dongle. Svhs for video and two phono connectors for sound. All the same, nothing works just a blue screen and no sound. The RYVT is set either to scart (composite) using the scart cable or three phono connectors, or svhs using the svhs connector. The video format is set to pal1. The video switch is set to normal.

2) VIDEO CAMERA, not been able to get RYVT to see this, no connection options available. It's as if the dongle is being blocked from connecting to the pc, although the pc acknowledges the connection as it shows up in remove hardware etc.

Any further advice?

Just had a look in device manager, there is one entry "other devices" with a very small question mark in the icon. On opening this there is one thing listed, with the same question mark, it's called "video grabber" Looking at "properties" and then "general", it says "No drivers are installed for this device". It also says the device has been configured (null) today at the time I reinstalled the software.

Does this mean the driver is not installed for the magix dongle?

I also have Device USB\VID_1D19&PID_6120&MI_00\7&24a5ac53&0&0000 was configured, under the events tab.

I have just removed the dongle from the pc, and that icon for the video grabber disappears, so it looks like thats the problem, no driver loaded.

But, how to resolve this?

The driver will not load correctly. I downloaded the file magix_usb_video_driver_black_int, double clicked it and got 5 files/folders. I doubled clicked the "setup" application file, and the device driver installation wizard started.

Exactly the same happened when I tried to install the software from the instalation disc - it has options to remove the existing driver, upgrade it or install. Whichever option I chose, the installation of the new driver starts, very slowly gets to 3% then says "complete - success". But it still shows as not installed properly in device manager.

I even tried it in safe mode, with exactly the same result.

No idea what to try now, any further help greatly appreciated!

Hi

Try turning off the Real time protection/Folder protection/Ransomeware protection in your Antivirus (AV) program before installing the drivers - how you do this depends on your AV - this has been known to cause installation issues.

Thanks for staying with this problem.

I tried what you suggested, (windows security) and still exactly the same, driver installation says its loaded but device manager says video grabber has no driver!

I also tried a second USB around the back of the machine, just exactly the same.

This is a pretty long shot, but ....

When you first installed the software and driver(s) was the USB dongle plugged in to the computer before you installed the software etc? If so, it is more than possible that Windows has installed a Generic driver which it thinks is suitable but actually is not!

In which case I would suggest the following process as being at least worth a try!

1. Unplug the USB device from your computer.
2. Remove the existing drivers, using the method you mentioned earlier.
3. Reboot your computer.
4. Attempt again to install the correct drivers, (64 bit).
5. Plug in the USB device to your computer.
6. Test!

If that still fails, try repeating the above process, but at step 2 use the free Revo Uninstaller to completely remove everything connected with the previous installation. This will remove ALL the software and drivers connected with RYVT but if you have any other Magix program on your computer, check carefully everything that Revo says it is going to remove. (It will show you a list of everything, files, folders, registry entries it thinks is connected with the RYVT software; this is the list to check and agree, or otherwise, to.)

Then continue the process as above.

I only plugged the USB dongle into the computer when asked part way through the installation.

I have not used the Revo Uninstaller, because of the following---

When I got this machine, the very first thing I installed was "EaseUS" backup free software. Then I did a copy of the whole C drive operating system, and saved it onto my other installed drive D as well as an external drive. Then I would install some more of the system, IE maybe a scanner and printer as well as the Internet. Then do another copy of the C drive etc. That way, if anything got messed up I could undo the problem by reloading the previous back up. So when I tried a number of things that failed to solve this problem, I would just reload the previous operating system from back up, so ensuring a completely clean system again.

I've still got the very first copy of the BU of the pc as "supplied" and was wondering about going right back to those conditions? just as a test to see if RYVT all installs ok. Obviously it would then get overwritten going back to the system as now, but it would at least confirm if things were ok and current problems maybe being caused by a device conflict.

It might come to this if nothing else comes to mind.

Can you check the Camera setting in Settings, Privacy, Camera, Allow apps to access your camera is on and the same for Microphone.

An update may have turned them off.

In Device Manager does the Magix USB converter appear under Sound, video and game controllers and is it using the 64 bit driver - under Driver details you should see something like this - the image is from my very old USB capture device

The x64 indicates these are 64 bit drivers, if they are 32 bit drivers then they should have x86 in their name

Thanks for the images - unfortunately there is nothing there to indicate whether those drivers are 32 bit or 64 bit - unless the something not shown in the second image further down the list

Try the following:

1. Download the black converter drivers if you have not kept them, and unzip the contents to a folder
2. In Device Manager uninstall the Magix USB converter and confirm deletion of the drivers - leave the converter plugged in.
3. Browse to the folder where you extracted the zipped file to and open the x64 folder.
4. Double click setup.exe
5. This should install the 64 bit driver.

If that fails there is another way to ensure the drivers is installed - do not delete the extracted files, you will need them if you have to force them in.

Hi John, done this, still no good.

A little puzzled now. There are two entries in device manager concerning this video dongle.

Under sound, video and game controllers it lists "Magix video convertor 3"

Which when right clicked, shows a lot of driver files, and states its working properly.

The second entry, says no driver installed.

Where should the driver be installed? under which device?

The device under Sound, video and game controllers is the correct one, the 64 bit drivers are installed in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers - a slightly odd location as Windows is 64 bit you would expect them to be in the System folder, 32 bit drivers are stored in the SysWOW64/drivers folder.

As Rescue your Video Tapes can see the device the correct drivers must be installed.

I have checked the RYVT on Amazon and there are 2 versions of 9 on offer one with a red box and another with a black box which did you purchase?

Also check if the program is installed in C:\Program files\Magix or c:\Program files (x86)\ Magix

What is the full name of the program and version number as found under Help, About?

I am beginning to suspect the USB converter may be faulty.

It could be a 'ghost' device - I have seen this before with another dongle I have.

Which plug are you referring to - the s-Video or one of the red/white/yellow plugs?

If the s-Video plug check the corresponding plug on the cable does not have any pins bent. If one is bent very gently push it straight with a small flat screwdriver or similar.

The red/white/yellow plugs/sockets usually have a gap when fully connected as shown below (this is from my converter)

I, like @CubeAce also suspect that plug is in wrong way round.

The plug looks like a micro USB plug and has a specific orientation - if you look closely at the plug you will find that 2 corners on one of the broad sides are angled as seen below

The socket also has the same cut off corners on one long side.

Try putting the plug in the other way round - it should go in fully with little effort.

The plug will only go in one way!

There is no corresponding arrow on the body of the USB dongle connector.

This is a screen shot of the installation video, not very clear but it looks as if there is a gap between the two parts of the connecting plug.

It does look like a slight extrusion but still worth looking at as well as looking at the pins inside of both parts.

I have had some flaky micro usb connections in the past myself.
