Cannot get VHS player to connect

Courtney-R wrote on 4/25/2021, 9:37 AM

I have been using the RYVT successfully with a camcorder for a while now, but have only just tried it for the first time with a VHS player and cannot get anything to register on RYVT. When I get to the "Transfer video to computer" window the screen turns to blue but nothing else shows up. I have got the scart lead set to OUT and tried installing the updated drivers but it made no difference. I am using a combination TV/VHS player so I'm not sure if that's what is causing the issue?

I have the black version of the convertor.

@Courtney-R

Hi and welcome to the forum.

When capturing from the camera were you using the camera connected to the Composite input on the USB converter?

. . . . I am using a combination TV/VHS player . . . .

Are the VCR recording settings the same as was used for the camera?

If the TV/player is capable of outputting Composite and audio via a SCART socket this should not in itself be an issue, however some players have 2 SCART connectors, and usually, only one of them is capable of outputting the required signals.

Additionally if the VCR is a PAL player that can play NTSC tapes, and you are trying to capture a NTSC tape, the black converter cannot recognise the signal from the VCR - it outputs a pseudo NTSC signal which TV's can play, however the converter cannot recognise.

Hi John, thanks for your response!

When capturing from the camera I was using the Red/Yellow/White cables connected to the USB converter.

I'm not sure what you mean about the VCR recording settings being the same as the camera?

The TV/player has only one SCART connector, but as it is a TV/VHS player I'm not sure if possibly it is only an input connector.

I am in the UK and also only transferring home videos so I don't think NTSC is an issue as that was not generally used in Europe.

That is quite possible - what is the make /model of the TV/Player?
