Cannot burn to DVD

bobthevideoman wrote on 4/19/2015, 5:08 PM

I am trying to burn a 2hr 30 min PAL 16:9 video with menus to a DVD.

This I have done many times before, but for this project even though I have carefully checked and re-checked the "Adjust Bit Rate"  setting,  Magix will not fit the video onto a standard DVD.

When starting to burn by pressing the disk symbol a pop up window advises me to adjust or split the project, I select adjust then Magix starts processing, then after a good hour decides to ask me for another disk !!

When checking the removed disks they are always completely empty.

i7 (3.5ghz), Windows 7, 64 bit, 16GB ram Nividia GeForce GTX 760

Thanks

Bob

Hi

. . . . 2hr 30 min PAL 16:9 video with menus to a DVD . . .

If MEP is asking for another disc then there is something preventing it compressing the video down to fit on a standard single layer DVD.

Did you get the adjust bitrate message when you started the burn?

There are two options:

  • Use a dual layer disc - your burner must support writing to dual layer.

  • Reduce the length of the video

Thanks John

About to try a dual layer but, I am afraid I cannot reduce the video length though.

Also yes I did adjust the bit rate by clicking Encoder then Adapt Bit Rate (you will see it as 3982 on the attached screenshot.  Play length is stated at 2hrs 25mins which is correct but still Magix refuses to compress the video..

What I cant understand is that I have been doing this type of work for over 10 years with Pinnacle, Avid Studio Movie Edit Pro and now Pro X6 and I have never had a problem with this part of the process before. I have produced at least 15 similar projects with ProX6 with no problem yet now this happens.

I have also asked Magix Support this is thier answer =

What if you select one of the Long Play Presets from the pull down menu instead of adjusting settings yourself? Sometimes adjusting the settings can cause the codecs to error.

This does not work either, same warning / failure, I am writing back and shall let you know how I get on.

Many thanks for your thoughts

Bob

Hi

Thanks for the post back.

The compression of the video depends a great deal on how much 'action' there is in the video.

A video with slow moving shots, still images will compress more than for example a movie with lots of action / fast changes etc.

Hopefully everything goes Ok with dual layer discs.

Thanks again John

All is well now, it may be because I have updated to 13.0.6.21 !!!

I did not realise that this update was available untill I looked for it on Magix support....

Anyway I have now burnt several DVD's and Dual Layer's with menus.

Great support again, cheers

Bob
