Cancellation of your MAGIX Website Maker free contract

Robin-Green wrote on 12/17/2019, 1:38 PM

Hi

I've received an email with the above message in the subject.

It is suggesting web sites designed using older versions of Web Designer will not work properly. Something to do with Flash Player. My sites were all designed with older versions of Web a Designer.

The sites are not hosted by xara.

Will I have to re-design and upload a new revised Web site?

Thank you

Robin

@Robin-Green, @PekkaP

Hi

The first line of email reads:

You have subscribed to the product "Website Maker free" in MAGIX Online World

It does not refer to Web Designer - Website Maker was the site builder that was available at Magix Online

However if your websites are built with Web Designer does use Flash, then it needs updating to be HTML 5 compliant, most web browsers now disable Flash by default.

This was a WWW consortium decision with the development and release of the HTML 5 specification, ie a web browser should be able to play video natively without the need for third party player plugins.

If you are still using an older version of Web Designer then you may need to update it if it does not support HTML5.

Thank you for your quick reply.

I will check to see if my site needs any Flash

Am I right in saying that it's motion images and animations that require Flash?

@Robin-Green

Hi

. . . . it's motion images and animations that require Flash . . . .

Usually these a GIF files - Flash was used to play video files originally FLV then SWF was added, however the later versions supported many different video formats.

99% of my site comprises of text photos, mostly jpeg, and standard Web Designer templates.

Based on this, is there anything to worry about unless I upgrade the Web sites to include videos

Thanks Robin

Can you confirm whether or not I've got to re-do my site as it has no programmes on it that require Flash

It is hosted by UK2, not Magixv

Thank you

You would only need to do something if the site contains video.

If there is video present you check the HTML of the published site where the video is located and see if it is trying to use flash player or a player that is used by Web Designer ie

if you see this line

<script src="index_htm_files/mediaelement-and-player.min.js"></script> - this should be in the header section of the HTML, ie between the <head> and </head> tags.

Then the site is OK - it is using the Media Element player.
