can't synch audio and video

Ronald-Amberger wrote on 7/6/2022, 4:34 PM

I imported video that I made in mp4 format. When i loaded the clip into the editing space i found that the audio track is several seconds ahead of the video track. I unlinked the tracks and shifted the audio track what i calculated to be the proper amount. Then i grouped the two tracks again. The result was a mess with groups of frames in the video track being jumbled and the souund stll not synched correctly. I really want to resolve this. video pro premium v.20,0,80 (UDD#) ug code de8453 ka1

@Ronald-Amberger

Hi, and welcome to the user to user forums.

You say you a video in the mp4 format but there are several ways to achieve that and it is important that even though the file may be using an mp4 file format, that it is not creating a variable frame rate file. Variable frame rate video footage is the main cause of audio going out of sync in video editors as the codecs used are often proprietary to the device doing the recording and not used by most video editors. Particularly when the frame rates vary by more than a few frames per second. This most often happens when recording using HEVC (H265) and a common method used by mobile phones and some screen recording software.

Such a files data can be seen using MediaInfo to look at the file in Text mode to see if the file is variable or constant frame rate and whether the frame rates vary by more than a few frames per second. If they do then the file may have to be converted to a constant frame rate before it can be edited using a program like Handbrake.

If you feel this is not your problem then please post a MediaInfo text view of the data from the offending file here so we can see if there could be a different problem.

Ray.
