Can't get Samplitude to recognize my input

Jim-Roshelli wrote on 1/3/2025, 8:50 PM

I used older versions of Samplitude for years and never had a problem. Now I've upgraded to newer computer and the new version of Samplitude Music Studio. I am using an Antelope Zen Q interface and I have two condensor mics hooked up to it and I'm getting a good signal on the interface. Yet when I open Samp and start a VIP session, I cannot get Samp to record a signal. I choose the record device Zen Q 1-2 and it always defaults back to Zen Q 3-4 and the Samp shows no signal. I am simply trying to record an acoustic guitar. Any help? What could I be doing wrong? It should be very straight forward but it isn't.

@Jim-Roshelli

Hi

Assuming the new computer is running Windows 11, check the following setting is turned on:-

Contrary to the description this affects all audio inputs to the computer neing available for 'desktop apps'.

In addition check the option shown below, if there is an entry for the interface select it.

Thanks John. That solved the playback issue, now the recordings (I made several successfully before now) are playing back through the Antelope interface, but still can't get a recording signal to my track in Samp. I've been messing with this thing for hours. The funny thing is when I go to the setting as you suggested and choose Antelope 1-2, the meter there shows a signal when I speak into the microphone, so I know the audio is coming into the computer, but it won't come into Samp. Also, when I choose an input in Samp, the entire list comes up in the dropdown, but it defaults to Antelope 3-4. I can change it to 1-2 and close that diaglog, but when I reopen it, it's showing as 3-4 again. I'm almost ready to give up and go buy new interface and new software. Thanks. Jim

@Jim-Roshelli Is the 1-2 input maybe blocked by another application? Or what is shown in the ASIO driver Control Panel for your interface?

SP - I opened the ASIO control panel and it had my interface listed, I had to check it and now everything seems to work. Not sure how I made recordings in the past since I've never seen that ASIO setting. Funny thing is when I open the buffer settings tab, it shows "Asio status - Asio not active" I don't even know what Asio is.

@Jim-Roshelli The ASIO protocol is the widely used protocol to send and receive data to/from audio interfaces.

Other protocols might go through the Windows sound subsystem, which can introduce a lot of latency and will disable certain features in Samplitude, for example you won't get live monitoring without ASIO drivers.

Usually audio interfaces come with their own ASIO drivers or use generic drivers like ASIO4ALL. Samplitude offers an old version of ASIO4ALL, called Magix Low Latency, but you should make sure you use the official driver of your interface or the newest version of ASIO4ALL. It's not really clear from your post which driver you use.

I am using the drivers from the Antelope interface. Yet sometimes I get latency issues and sometimes not. This whole thing is frustrating for me, it seems like every time I turn it on there's a new issue. This morning I couldn't get it to work and went through Samp to check things and it had assigned MME drivers. I have no idea what that is and I didn't make that change, it seems like Samp has a mind of it's own. I used Samp for many years and an Aardvark interface (the precursor to Antelope), so I thought it made sense to stay with basically the same brands since I had no problems with the old set up. It still works fine and is very stable but it runs on XP so I wanted to modernize.

@Jim-Roshelli MME is an ancient Windows sound driver. Were you using Magix Low Latency or ASIO4ALL? Don't you have a driver for your interface? Please check its manual or the website of the manufacturer. It's not really clear from reading your posts which driver you use.

OK, I thought I knew what I was doing but I don't. When I open Samp. it automatically opens a new project. I've been going in to the project properties/project options/system options and selecting the WASAPI Zen Core 1/2 driver which corresponds with the two recording channels I'm using. I just looked and there is the Zen Q Asio Driver which I never noticed before. I selected that now I'm going to try recording something. I bet this solves all my problems! I appreciate your help!! And I'll let you know.
