The instructions say I need a sound card and external microphone. Is this the only way to record live music onto pc? I had a cd once, and added vocals, but would like to record my guitar music as I create it, how is that possible?
Please do not use internal microphone that will not give you good quality. If quality is not a big deal then you can do, please read rest below:
You need a computer with enough RAM. Hard Drive. reasonable processor and sound card. If you got Desktop or Laptop sound card will be pre installed.
Why I mentioned hard drive and processor? if you got enough (large hard drive that will be good same goes to RAM memory. But if you got normal computer no problem why not try and see if that works or not.
Ok for recording you need a software we here usually use Magix Music Maker which is simple and for beginner level. Professional use Magix Samplitude or other maker's such as Cubase, Cakewalk, Ableton, FL etc.these are DAW(digital audio work station)
Next if you got computer and a software next stage is you will have to connect your recording gear with computer for that you can connect directly via USB cable or you can use Audio interface(which I use because it also work as a external sound card for my laptop). So far half preparation is done, for vocal you need a Microphone there are various Mic available in the market it depends in which atmosphere you will be recording. Choose it wisely.
Summary: A computer with music making software, audio interface if needed, a microphone and a guitar with accessories(cables etc) The music software you will have to install then have to make some setting to use guitar or any other instrument.
If you got Magix Music Maker then many people here can guide you surely.
I hope now you got some rough idea how it will work for you.
