border cutting

Ok so I made a mistake on vacation and bought the wrong telephoto lens for my HD video camera. Well, the worst part is that i didn't notice the black outside circle around the edges of my videos until I made it back home. Thinking I will have to go back to Vegas and re-ride the helicopter is not in question. So now all my videos look.... well .... round ! So the question is, Can I cut away the black boarders of a video and still try and keep the quality?

I can't see other solutions than zooming away the round corners. Quality will fall, but as the camera is HD, you have to be satisfied with the result.
