AVCHD Lite

About to purchase a new Panasonic TZ7 that records in AVCHD Lite - Looking to also puchase a new edit suite - Has MEP14 or 15 been certified for this new format yet? Has it been tested?

Thanks for that. I have it on “reasonable” authority (pano) that just supporting AVCHD will not be enough. There is a frame problem. - AVCHD Lite movies are played back in double speed in both Apple's iMovie'09 and iMovie'08 (which supports AVCHD) and I was wondering if anyone has tried to use A-Lite with MEP15+

Hi there,

From what I gather AVCHD Lite is really nothing but a label made up by Panasonic for their AVCHD cams that are restricted to recording in 720p. So, any software that covers AVCHD handling should also cover AVCHD, unless I'm missing something important here. Has Movie Edit Pro (Plus) been officially certified for AVCHD "Lite"? I guess not, since the label was only created by Panasonic recently and doesn't have that much actual meaning. Will it open these files? I'm pretty sure it will, since they're apparently just regular AVCHD files.

Hi again,

Don't know whether it's still interesting, but I can say with pretty good certainty now that "AVCHD Lite" probably wouldn't really pan out very well in MEP 14/15, pretty much for the same reason it doesn't really work out in some other video editing programs yet. There's a misleading information about the material's frame rate in the header information of those video files. The importing or playing program actually has to add in additional frames to get the playback speed right. If it doesn't do that, it will result in the sped up playback. So, Panasonic's use of the AVCHD logo on that camera could be considered somewhat problematic...

The main differences between AVCHD Lite and the regular AVCHD: a maximum resolution of 1280 x 720p in AVCHD Lite compared to 1920 x 1080p in regular AVCHD and a less-intensive compression method - both of which make the format more suitable for less powerful camera hardware

Some programs do not allow AVCHD Lite to be imported and edited, like Magix Movie Edit Pro. so you have to choose another program to convert your Panasonic Lumix AVCHD Lite files to ediatble AVI or WMV for Magix Movie Edit Pro. And AUNsoft is the recommended program to convert AVCHD Lite to Magix ediatble video format.
