Aux Send/Return MS 14

Hi!

After almost 3 years of using Samplitude MS 14 I FINALLY figured out how to use the Aux Send/Return feature.

Having found the manual instructiions a bit vague, I came up with the following process:

1. Open MIXER and go to Aux Send section on top of mixer. Each channel has 4 blocks for 4 sends each.  1-2-3-4  from top to bottom.  Click the top space and it will create an AUX  channel and number it AUX1.  Click on a space on this auxilliary channel and it will create another channel  AUX2.  Repeat process for as many AUX channels as desired.
2. Go to Plugin selector of AUX1 and select a plug in effect (VST).
3. Minimize Mixer and go to channel you want Aux effect.  Go to AUTOMATION selector of this channel.  On drop down menu select Aux Send and choose the Aux channel of the effect you want.
4. Go to the curve line that was created on that channel and raise it to the level you desire for that effect.
5. Increasing the volume of the Aux channel will intensify the effect for that channel.  Example-If you have chorusing on AUX1 channel, by increasing the FADER volume on that channel you will get more chorusing.  Decreasing will result in less effect.

This seems to work on a recent new project I created but I went back to try it on a project I did a bit more than a year ago and found that it doesn't work on it.  Could it be that as Samp 14 has limitations, the 24 channels on the older project are too many for this process to work as compared to the newer project that has less channels?  Or is there another problem or step I'm missing?

Thanks in advance

John B

If you search the internet you should be able to find the limitations within SMS14.  I remember a PDF comparison, so it's out there if you search.  I doubt track count has anything to do with sending to an aux.

You may get a better response on the newcomer section of the big Sam board in the future as well.  I've seen many MS / Producer questions there.  This place is dead.

M key opens and closes the mixer, btw.  Try the Y key.  Wow!  Technololgy.....

Anyway,  once you have set up your aux channel with an effect  (FX mix @ 100%, btw) and a name (you should know how to name a track/aux/submix buss as well as routing to a submix buss), click on the aux section of the track or in the mixer and set it to your new Aux channel.  Click on the off button and there you can set your db level to the Auxes of your choice by either moving the diamond thingie or click and drag.

You also can automate, but that will occur a bit less often than say, sending a vocal to an aux with a  delay (or whatever effect) on it.  Remember you need to get some of that signal to over to the aux channel.

Check out Kraznet on youtube.  You'll learn a lot from his efforts.  Great toots and a great guy.

Hay there JohnB

I could really use some help with some recordings. I haven't had this MS-14 very long and am stretched for time. I'm attempting to remove sound like wind and hiss from track and --- don't have a clue------ very poor information to get things going, can you help?  I'm producing a DVD with nature sounds.

I'm presently working on a DVD, trying to clean sound from nature recordings I've made. Wow, what a long study. Tutorials are hard to find. I also do may forms of visual arts, carving ,photography, etc. I sure could use some help using music studio 14, not to forget all the batch filing difficulties with photos.

I've taken mostly bird photos so far this summer. I will concentrate on mostly nature and possibly some scenics to add to my DVD,later this fall.(2012 july)

You should try using some EQ (either the standard 4-band parametric or the FFT Filter). You might start by setting a Low-cut filter to remove some of the low-end rumble, and then selectively choose one or more other offending bands to cut if needed.

You could also try using the De-hisser. Just double-click on the object in the arrange window to open the Object Editor. Click Object Effects on the left, then under FX Inserts click the Cleaning FX button. That should open the De-hisser. I'm looking at this in Samplitude Producer 11, but I think this was also available in MS14.
