Automated correction of white balance, contrast, colortone of one clip/object based on the caracteristics of the previous clip/object

Hello,

English is not my native language, so excuse me for grammar mistakes. I am looking for a plugin or another way to automate corrections of white balance, contrast, colortone of one clip/object based on the caracteristics of the previous clip/object. One plugin which is able to do this is, is Re:Match from Vision Effects. Unfortunally this plugin is not compatible with Magix Video Pro.  Does anyone knows solution?  Thanks in advance. Marc

Hi

Assuming the corrections to be applied are the same for the clips to be adjusted you can do the following without extra plugins:

Adjust the first clip requiring corrrection and adjust using the Video effects tab, Colour correction and Brightness/Contrast effects in VPX.

Once the first clip is done, right click the adjusted clip and select Video Effects, Copy video effects or press the - (hyphen) key

Then select the video clips to be adjusted and select Video Effects, Paste video effects or press Shift and  (hyphen) key.

Thanks John, but that is not what i meant. I am editing my holiday movie, and it consists of 500+ clips. Of course the colortone / white-balance / contrast of all those clips dont always match. And i want them to match. They way you describe it means that every clip will be modified the same way, but always related to the characteristics of the clip to be changed. But what i mean is a (automated) way to make the characteristics (contrast, white balance, colortone) of one clip more-or-less equal to the characteristics of another clip.  Regards, Marc

Hi Marc,

I had and still have a similar problem. I have video taken with an older cell phone (I think), indoors and the white balance, colour and contrast would change for a couple of seconds every 3 or 4 seconds., so it was going crazy from one frame to the next. Very annoying. I couldn't find an easy solution. Re:Match looks like it could have solved the problem, but as you say, it's not available for Magix.

I ended up creating a split image, half good half bad and using Pixelan FilmTouch 2 Pro to try to find the settings to match the bad side to the good one. FilmTouch allows you to split the screen to see the original and the modified, so I had original on the left, modified on the right and played with many setting to try to match them. I got close, but still had to use some other Magix effects to get closer.

So, I too would like to find something like Re:Match, but I don't think there is one.

Perhaps you could post a couple of examples.

Below is my example of the image made from 2 adjacent frames. The bad one, very yellowish, is on the right.

Maybe someone has a solution.

Hi John, yes currently i do it the same way you describe. Not with Filmtouch though, but with NewBlue Filmlook. But you have set all the parameters manually and then compare the screen visually. A lot of time consuming work. Waiting for a Magix plugin which can save me that effort.

Hi

Not quite what you are looking for but the "Autocolour" feature in MEP> Video Effects >Colour Tab can work very quickly and amazingly well albeit on one clip at a time.

It seems to work best if there is something that is (meant to be) white and something that is black in the frame where you place the timeline marker, as I think it tries to raise the White to 100% video level and take the grey to black in it's setting of the contrast. A result of this is that a trial can turn out too contrasty if the frame has only midtones. Usually unclicking the Autocolour button and moving to another frame in the shot one or twice will get you a very good result, or at least a solid starting point. The auto chosen colour balance seems to be remarkably good on clips with heavy casts, where every thing is so far off that just changing an individual effect's parameter often requires revisiting, because each effect's optimisation is hard to judge untill the other effect's parameters are corrected.

I have been incredibly impressed with the results on some underwater video shot with a cheap waterproof camera, where the typical blue, low contrast, desaturated look became vibrant and colourful often with just one click! Trying to get the same result using the individual brightness, contrast, colour controls would have taken forever and would not have looked as good based on a couple of clips I tried.
