After Upgrade from Video X Pro 5 to 6 VST plugins no longer compatible?

tomotello wrote on 2/19/2014, 10:14 AM

I've upgraded from Video X Pro 5 to version 6. Now it seems the VST plugins like variverb (also purchased at Magix) are no longer compatible with version 6. I know how to set VST path and did it for sure correctly - but the plugins don't load.

I've raised a ticket to Magix Support one week ago, but didn't get any answer.

This problem of 32 bit VSTs in a 64 bit OS is one which has caused many headaches for many users of a variety of Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs).  I don't have a 64 bit OS so can't use VPX6 but one of the audio forums I frequent (for Adobe Audition, whose latest incarnation is 64 bit only) I've seen quite a lot of discussion of jBridge, which allows 32 bit VSTs to operate successfully in 64 bit Audition, apparently.

I can't test whether this would work in VPX6, clearly, but it's available here http://jstuff.wordpress.com/jbridge/  Not sure whether there is a demo version to allow you to test it, but at Euro 14.99 it's not especially expensive.

Hi,

See the answer in this Forum from Pixelan. According to their information, Magix is working on a patch to get plugins to work with X6 64 bit. What this will cover remains to be seen. We can only hope....and remind Magix.

But John, the difference here is that VSTs are, specifically, audio effects.  Pixelan are video effects and I'm pretty certain that the two "problems" are entirely different.  The problem for Pixelan users seems to be something inherent within VPX6, hence the forthcoming patch.  The problem with 32 bit VSTs in a 64 bit environment is one which is well-known and is, apparently, NOT resolvable by simply patching the host; either the VST itself must be rewritten to be 64 bit OR some kind of bridge application must be used.

Hi Jeff,

You're right. Just trying to pass on the news about the video plugins and hoping for the audio plugins. Hopefully Magix is working on resolving both. Maybe a few more queries to Magix are in order. They should at least reply.

Thomas and Jeff,

When you put in the path for the VST, did you use:

C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins\MAGIX

or did you do like me:

C:\Program Files (x86)\VSTPlugins?

When I did the first one, that is where the 64 bit plug-ins are I believe.

They came up in V6 after I ran the first path.

Please check and see. It appears that I only have registered VeriVerb and it worked. I had a serial number registered previously. The other 3 asked for the serial number. These are:

  • Analogue Modelling Suite Plus
  • EssentialFX Suite
  • Vandal

I have some but not all of these in 32 bit with Music Maker Premium or Samplitude Music Studio as they came with one of the programs. By this I mean that I have some of the eFX but not all in 32 bit, and none in 64. Vandal I have in 32 bit as Vandal SE, but not at all in 64 where it is labeled Vandal VST. SE is a stripped down version. I don't have Analogue Modelling Suite in either system.

Please let me know how this works out.
