Adding social media share button

MrBroon wrote on 12/20/2022, 12:01 PM

I'm using Web Designer Premium 19 and wondering if there is a way to put a single share on social media button on a page that opens up the users list of options i.e. asks them which of their apps they would like to use.

I can see the symbol for it in the content catalogue but I don't know what to link it to.

Any ideas?

Hi

See the Xara widget guide here for how to add use social media buttons.

However if i understand you query correctly - is not the share option already on the social media site post you create?

. . . . asks them which of their apps they would like to use . . . .

Can you clarify what you mean by this, as this is usually a function of the web browser or app which you cannot control.

Thanks for that John, although its not exactly what I was looking for, I hadn't seen the widgets for twitter etc, thought they were only artwork templates.

I'm trying to make it easy for people to share my articles that Im adding to my website.

The function I was after was to use one symbol (below) that would then open up a range of options. Maybe this isn't possible and I need to us a seperate widget for each platform?

@MrBroon

Hi

The most common method of what you are wanting to do is to have the articles hosted on the Social Media site(s) you use, so they take care of the sharing option and embed the posts in pages on your website using iFrame(s).- using the Xara widgets or, if there is not a widget for the media site you use, most sites should have instructions on how to do this using an iFrame on a web page.

Do note that if you are posting the same article over many Social Media sites this can generate a lot of work and options on your website.

Having the articles on your website and trying to link to them to/from Social Media posts is not a good option.

Yes that helps a lot John, I'm very much an amatuer here. Once the template is changed and if its not on a tutorial then I'm a bit lost, thanks again for your help.
