Apple makes it difficult, but everybody buys iPods and uses iTunes because that's what's popular... even though there are cheaper alternatives that do not incorporate digital rights management.

My suggestion:  From now on, get your music from a place like Amazon digital downloads.  Just as cheap as iTunes (sometimes cheaper), and all files are straight mp3's with no limitations on what devices you can transfer them to.

And while I'm on my soapbox, I use a Creative Zen mp3 player.  Much less expensive than an iPod... It plays mp3's, WMA's, videos... no messing with iTunes or anything.  I just drag & drop files to add songs.  Hope this helps!
