DVD7
After importing video in MPEG format a message is displayed prompting to save the MVM file under a different name. A further message is displayed above : Error in module MPEG2.DLL (Load address)x05dd0000) to address 0x5df000
Exception 0xc5 "Access Violation" . A prompt then follows to close the programme due it it being unstable
After closing the programme, the saved MVM file is blank when loaded.

Hello,

If the issue is not specific to the particular MPEG source files you're importing, this might be a conflict with your current DEP (data execution prevention) settings in Windows. Please try re-configuring them as per the instructions below.

In Windows XP, you can configure DEP as follows: Right-click on "My Computer" and choose "Properties" or go to the Control Panel and double-click "System" to bring up the "System Properties" dialogue. Switch to the "Advanced" tab and click on the "Settings" button in the "Performance" section. Switch to the "Data Execution Prevention" tab in the small dialogue that comes up. Now you have arrived at the dialogue where DEP can be configured. Make sure to choose the option that will enable DEP only for essential Windows programs and services and confirm your settings. Done.

In Windows Vista, go to the Control Panel and proceed as follows: "System and Maintenance" => "System" => choose "Advanced system settings" on the left-hand side and confirm "Allow" for the security prompt that might come up => "Advanced" tab => "Settings..." button in the "Performance" section => "Data Execution Prevention" tab. Choose the option that will enable DEP only for essential Windows programs and services and confirm your settings. You will have to restart your computer.

That will hopefully do the trick and resolve the problem. If not, a more detailed look at the issue might be necessary and you should probably contact Magix tech support.

Good luck!

Good suggestions.

Also, I avoid putting my projects in the "Programs" area where Magix is installed.

I always start from the root ... C:\  and create a directory called "Projects". Then, I build off of this C:\Projects directory.

The "programs" folders have different permissions and on the XP Pro and Home Premium this can cause issues.

Access Violation happens because of permissions or the file is already in use.  If some program has the file open - reboot the computer and that will break any ties to the file.
