@gail-s

Hi and welcome to the forum

Captions are titles with an animated background/effect.

To use them work in Timeline mode, position the timeline cursor where you want the caption to start and add the required caption to the timeline. - see example below.

The text is edited the same as for titles - double click the text object - indicated by yellow arrow below.

the example above looks like this

Thank you, John. But this is not what I am seeing in your Photo Deluxe program. (the picture box has symbols in it and there is also a checkmark and an X when the title square comes up not explained)). When I go into Titles/ caption basic. There are 3 symbols ( an arrow, box, and a heart) in the caption template. When I can get the shape I can not get the words in it. Also, there are other symbols not identified anywhere in the manual. Since I am a novice. This may not be for me...Please even your phone number is not dialable as written. Removed by Moderator

How does one get a refund? I have found Returns your web site but it to was not explicit or helpful. Please help me process this more easily by being more direct with this information in this reply. Most appreciative> Removed by Moderator

Hi

Please note this is a public forum, not Magix Support, never post confidential information in the forum eg your contact details. I have removed your contact details to avoid crank calls. Also note that telephone support has been replaced by a ticketing system.

The issue may be a program setting option is not set correctly -

  1. Can you post a screenshot of what you are seeing in your description above.

  2. What is your computer specification - see this topic for details of what is required and please quote the processor and graphics card/chipset make model in full

  3. A screen shot of the Program settings, Devices options tab will also help.

See this article regarding refunds and follow the procedure there if you wish to do so.

Hi,

This program is about as easy as they come. But, like all programs, you have to spend time learning and trying things out - you won't break anything.

The buttons use icons that are pretty much standard.

I presume that you mean the buttons over the icons under Title Templates - Captions Basic and just about everywhere else, like below:

The heart should be obvious. What happens if you click on it? It leaves a heart so that you know that it is one that you like so that you can find it easier in other projects.

This is actually in the manual, at least in the version that I have (18.2.3.82):

...need better steps to complete the captions with transitions, etc.

I don't understand "captions with transitions." Captions don't go with transitions, they are just fancy titles. Transitions are something else. Can you explain better?

As for filling in the title for some of the more complicated caption templates, you need to understand in more detail about making titles. Some of the captions are not obvious without this knowledge, but the reality is that the title part of a caption is just a simple title that someone made for you with text that you replace with your own. That someone also placed the title at the right place on the screen, made it the right size, and gave it one or more fonts and one or more colours, using the same title editor that you have.

First, make sure that you are in Timeline mode, not Storyboard.

When you create a simple title, you got a box on the screen with the word title on it and a checkmark and X. The caption titles are exactly the same thing. Have you tried editing your simple title by double-clicking on it in the preview monitor, highlighting the text and changing it? What happens if you select the checkmark? What happens if you select the X? Obvious, no?

The real problems start with multiple lines of text containing different fonts, sizes and colours. Try this. Create a simple title with 2 lines of 1 word per line. Before accepting with the checkmark, highlight the word on the first line. In the Title editing dialogue, change the colour. Now click on the checkmark. You have 2 words, each with a different colour. Double-click on the title in the preview monitor to open the box. Highlight the second word and change the font. Accept (checkmark). Now you have 2 words, each with a different colour and each with a different font. Open the box again and this time highlight the first word and change the font size. Accept. Now you should be able to create complex titles with multiple lines, with different fonts, colours and sizes.

Now, add in a Caption Basic, like Blue 2. You get the same box but with 2 lines of text. each with a different font and size, but both are highlighted. Select just the first line and highlight the text. Make your text. Checkmark. Ooops, you wanted a second line. Double-click on the text (nowhere else, not in the blue ribbon, just the text). This reopens the text box. Highlight the second row of text (abcdef) and type in your text. Checkmark. Got it?

Now, select Title Editing in the Media Pool. If it tells you to select an existing text object, then select the grouped object in the timeline that contains the caption. To understand better, go to the right of the timeline and scroll down vertically to see more tracks by clicking on the down carat button at the bottom of the vertical scroll bar. Now, you'll see the entire grouped 3-object caption with "raise Alpha" on one track, "raise" on the next, and your title on the last. Click on any of these, but normally, click on the title object - the one with your title indicated in the bar at the top of the object. Now you'll see the normal Title Editor dialogue window in the Media Pool. You'll see your title on each of the 2 lines, the font, size and colour used, but the title actually has multiple sizes and fonts.

Double-click on the your title in the caption in the Preview Monitor to open the box. Select the first word or line and note the value in the dialogue box - Bold (the first T), Tahoma, 15, white. Select the second word or line and you'll now see the second T in italics, Tahoma, 12, white. Change it to red or something. Checkmark. You have just modified the template caption for your project.

You can only use multiple parameters by highlighting a word, letter or line in the box in the Preview Monitor - you cannot do this by highlighting in the Title box of the Text editor dialogue window.

For captions, this one in particular, the objects "raise Alpha" and "raise" are simply videos in Magix mxv format for the caption ribbon. "raise Alpha" is a mask, "alpha is just the blue on a black background.

Hope this helps.

Again, thank you for your response and security measure corrections. I hope am sending the print screens in the e-mail of what I see and even the manual page that does not explain the symbols you mention or the steps to use for caption making in the photo. Yes, I did the pushing of symbols but either lost everything or created little. I have a dozen back-ups to prove it. I can do the basic titles, just can not manipulate the caption boxes so they will transfer the completed text in the visual offering.I have changed fonts, color, etc. but it goes haywire instead of entering the right location (the checked box).

@gail-s

Hi,

I hope am sending the print screens in the e-mail

Please learn how to take screen shots and make a jpg out of them. Email has nothing to do with it. There are many tutorials on the internet.

To upload to your message in this forum, use the up arrow button at the top of the message when you are creating the message. If you hover the mouse over the button, you'll see the hint "upload file." In fact, hovering over most buttons anywhere gives you a hint.

just can not manipulate the caption boxes so they will transfer the completed text in the visual offering

Now I'm lost. The caption box is just a text box. If you can do a simple text, then you already know what to do. BTW, do not move the caption box or it will be in the wrong place. Just replace the text.

Open a new project and play with the captions. Learn by doing. I have hundreds of test project files for playing and trying out various things.
