The Libertarian's Lament.

A few months ago, I read an interesting article in Le Monde about the Libertarians. This US political party values individualism, liberty, free trade, sovereignty and is not supportive of coordinated global actions even when to solve accute problems, such as the climate change. It gave me inspiration to picture a pseudo Libertarian facing an increasingly organised world to tackle today's issues.

Lyrics of "The Libertarian's Lament"

I woke up this morning, fresh and rested,
Ready to lead my simple life,
Made of freedom, pride and respect,
Until I heard that radio guy...

Congressmen, experts and fools alike
Flying from meetings to seminars
Explain our planet is in danger
And the reasons why we should not fly.

Banquets prepared for their attendance
Display the most forbidden food,
Should we listen to their reference
On high carbon print likelihood.

But I don’t mind, no... I’ll keep my freedom
To travel far and eat as wished.
I will resist and fight these demons
Trying to impose a global shift.

They predict massive immigration,
Unprecedented storms and heat,
Famine, disease, wars, inondations,
If citizens remain unleashed.

Solo

But we don’t mind, no... We’ll keep our freedom
traveling far, eating as wished.
We will resist and fight these demons
Trying to enforce a global shift.

And if they ever prove to be right,
Show that my lifestyle is the cause,
I will escape, one of these nights
To a secret place far from their laws.

With gun and gale, I’ll leave this country.
And settle where every man’s free,
In a paradise facing the sun rays,
With no taxman to spoil the day.

What just matters to us is freedom,
Living away from all their rules.
Where liberty’s above restrictions
Edited by socialist fools.

Long life to freedom !

Thanks, Bert, for your congrats on the song as well as your comments on the lyrics. On the latter, I would like to specify that I’m in no way endorsing the statements and the laments of the Liberarian. The idea behind this song was to put myself in the shoes of someone who is absolutely foreign to my philosophy but with whom a press article got me acquainted. In the early 70s, Elton John wrote a song called «the Texan Love song » which sounded like a plea for disgraceful conservatism. Similarly, it was in way a position shared by the composer. Thanks again. All the best. Jeiffel
