Hi Marc.

I agree with Gid up to a point. The GH6 MOV file is the worst file being 10 bit and a mov file which is not a Windows file type really, mov files are best dealt with on Macs.

Surprisingly the file resolutions, frame speeds and bit depths were no problem but the audio for MEP(MMS) can't be read after just importing the clip. VPX can handle such audio streams though. Vegas Pro 18 was not easy to set up to work well and give a smooth playback with any expectation of getting a good image in the programs' monitor

Because of my limited GPU capabilities I did have to use a pre-render in every program to get smooth playback for the first and last video clips in any of the editors. I'm not sure even the 3060 has enough processing to handle the GH6 10 bit file.

It might be worth you downloading the VPX 14 trial to try out. See if your system handles the files better than my system does.

I hope Nvidia will release the new driver version 530.XX soon.  I'll try again with the latest driver. In the current state, the GOPRO 11 files in particular always crash for me.

Conclusion:

I have a 4K+ problem so far.  Because both the Panasonic cameras GH5 II, GH6, S5II and the GoPro 11 run all other recordings and formats in AVCHD and HEVC up to 4096X2160 perfectly.

Only from 5K there are problems at the moment.

I also tested ProRes recordings. They also work up to 4096X2160 (17:9).

and @huebi123 said "start your computer without another display" and starting without another connected display is at least the solution that the error doesn't always appear that I don't have enough graphics card memory.

Furthermore, the GoPro recordings now work but with some jerking. But there is no more Access Violation. I can now also play 8K files from the Samsung Galaxy S22. Sometimes they jerk. But depending on what another clip is in front of it, they even run smoothly.

But nothing can be done about the 5.7K file of the Panasonic GH6.  This file always crashes my system.  The error message Access Violation in Video Deluxe.EXE then appears again.

@Marc-Goder Hi,  I use the Studio driver,. You say 'I use Games Ready Driver 531.18 now' , what were you using?

Updated to the latest version 531.18 which is the Game Ready driver with a couple of 'fixes' for Premier rendering.

On the current project mainly video, with a 12 image collage, LUT and transition effects only, total run time of 5 mins was ~ 6% faster rendering times compared to the 528.49 driver.

The Benchmarking project I need to test this again on both PC and laptop, results were not consistent.

The Studio Driver is currently still at 528.49.

Bisher war die Version Game Ready Driver 497.29.

All other 5XX.XX drivers let my fans spin up immediately after the Windows login and the CPU load increased to 30%.  Without running any applications.

This is the first new driver where this no longer happens.

And I was hoping for that too. That the new driver works for me.

I would also like to try out how playing old YouTube videos with RTX VSR works now.  If the new driver hadn't worked for me again, it wouldn't have been possible.

This might be a stupid question but do you have QuickTime for Windows installed? I know technically it should no longer be needed but it is on my system and I'm not getting the Access Violation on that file.

Might be worth a try?

Yes, I have QuickTime installed.  The Quick Time alternative that Magix recommended on their support pages.

This is the version of Magix. Before I installed it, I couldn't import *.MOV files into Magix.

I would suggest you update to the Quicktime from Apple - Quicktime Alternative's last release was about 5 years before Quicktime for Windows was abandoned by Apple.

I now have the original Apple QuickTime 7.7.9 installed. That didn't change anything either.

When Magix ProX 15 comes out soon, I'll try the TEST VERSION again first.

I installed the new NVidia driver and it now works better for me than the previous 5xx.xx driver.

Then I started the laptop without an additional display. The error with the message "insufficient graphics card memory" has now been resolved.

A Windows option was set to OFF for me.

If I switch this option to ON, then all clips from the GH6 work for ME, both in the timeline and in the export.

If I switch the option OFF again, Magix crashes again with Access Violatoion in VDL.EXE

The option is under Settings ---> Ease of Access ---> Screen

The menu item at the bottom.

@Marc-Goder Hi, just for the sake of sharing, when I open mine this is how it's set up, apart from setting the Main display 150% I haven't changed this.

@Ancien utilisateur after Vegas did it's "thing" with the GH6 file, I was able to play it back at full resolution in Preview>Full. It has 4 audio tracks and looks like 2 of them have nothing on them. Resolve Studio 18 struggled with the file.

I shoot all the time with the MOV wrapper from my Panasonic camera in 10bit 4:2:2 UHD 4K and have no problems with using that type of file in VPX12.

I'd like to pose a question to everyone. Why is ProRes so popular as an acquisition format with professionals even though the file size is huge?

Hi.

ProRes files shot by professionals would be using full frame or large format sensored video cameras where the dynamic range such as found in the RED and similar cameras have will mean better colour accuracy and less shadow noise. Where the larger photo-sites and lack of pixel binning along with flexible shutter angle options of such cameras would allow and make sense of using files capable of extracting a higher dynamic range.

The fact that it is offered on smart phones is in my opinion partly a marketing ploy but at the same time has some limited benefits in processing assuming you have a system that is capable of handling the files. That though means having to have a system that costs as much to process an iPhones' output that would then be equally at home editing footage from a £12,000 video cine camera. To my mind the cost vs benefit calculations then get a bit skewed.
