MPEG-4 Constant Quality Question

jak.willis Posté à 09/04/2019 19:50

When using the MainConcept codec, in the “MPEG-4 Simple” encoder dialog you can select various quality & bitrate modes. When I select Constant Quantizer, I have to set a value between 0-51 in the “Frame QPs” box, but if I select Constant Quality instead, I am not able to select a value because the Frame QPs box is grayed out.

What is the reason for this and how can you use Constant Quality mode if you are not even able to set the Frame QPs?

Hello,

It doesn’t answer my question, unfortunately.

Hi

. . . . It doesn’t answer my question, unfortunately. . . . .

The advice given in the topic I linked to, and another very long topic on the same subject I did not link to, is basically - do not touch these settings, any improvement you may get will be marginal and the likelihood is that changing these settings will make the quality worse.

The presets are already optimised for quality/file size/performance by Magix.

Additionally depending on your source video format and quality and the destination / viewing device / web site the perceived visual quality may be compromised further.

. . . . When I select Constant Quantizer, I have to set a value between 0-51 in the “Frame QPs” box, but if I select Constant Quality instead, I am not able to select a value because the Frame QPs box is grayed out. . . . .

A greyed out option usually means that it is not available because it does not apply or it is a setting that would contradict/conflict with another parameter that has been set.

Hello,

Well, with the Frame QPs box greyed out, the only other boxes available are the bitrate boxes. But why would this be the case with Constant Quality mode? I thought that Constant Quality was similar to Constant Quantizer?

Hi

They are entirely different functions with different parameters, this was explained in the topic, and the topics linked to within that topic, I linked to.
