Combining 2 scenes into 1 scene

derek-williams Posté à 22/07/2020 18:19

Hi, Is there a way to combine two video clips into 1 scene? I put them on top of each other, but  the program makes them cross fade. I wan't both clips at full brightness.  BTW, I'm trying to film a time travel movie with my kids.  I have a green screen for some effects, but I'm trying to do this too.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

. . . . I put them on top of each other, but  the program makes them cross fade. I wan't both clips at full brightness. . . .

You cannot put two clips at full screen on top of each other and be able to see both full screen one through the other at full brightness.

We need more detail and preferably an example of what you are trying to achieve.

Thanks. I didn't think I could do combine scenes but had to ask. I am doing an amateur movie with my kids that involves time travel. I have the camera on a tripod, so the background is the same. I want my kids to be in the same scene together like they are looking back on themselves (like Back to the Future part 2). I have a green screen to do thiseffect but was trying for another way. I hope my example makes sense.

As John says, it’s unclear what you mean. But for example you could show two portrait size videos side by side, two very shallow landscapes vertically, or, if you’re happy to have some black spaces, two original size landscapes in various positions.

Are you trying to split the screen into two videos like this?

Hopefully, this will explain it...BTw, thanks for your responses.

Here is one scene with my kids in the pool, the clip on the left.

Here is another scene my kids behind the pool, the clip on the right.

Below, I put them on top of each other, and want to merge to it appears that my kids are in the pool and out of the pool at the same time. I'm doing a time-travel movie where my kids run into a previous version of themselves. I'm thinking the only way to do this is with my green screen, but we'll see. Thanks again.

The program has them faded automatically so the kids look like ghosts.

Hi

If the camera is locked of on a tripod and has not been moved between the 2 shots and the lighting has not changed, then just placing the clips one above the other on tracks1 and 2 and then applying a section to opposite halves of the clip could work well.

Hi Scenestealer,

Thanks for the response. Can you explain what that means? I tried to google it and look into the forum, but didn't find anything. Yes, the camera is on a tripod and we're doing the scenes with the same lighting (20 seconds apart from each other). I just don't know what "applying a section to opposite halves" means. Thanks again.

@derek-williams

Hi,

Here is another tutorial on how to use Section. In your case, just use the horizontal control, not vertical.

Edit - link added - missed the link first time round. Senior's moment, confused by power failure.

Your video clips have to be one separate tracks, one below the other. The lower numbered track is the background, clip on higher numbered track is foreground - covers what is on lower numbered track.

Hi Derek,

You could now use what you’ve learned about making sections/crops to show the effect you want. The upper part might be cropped to have the kids outside the pool, and the lower part show them inside it. No overlap, of course. The horizontal dividing line would need careful choosing to disguise it, or at least ensure it's camouflaged. And of course the common parts of the view would need to remain as close to constant as possible. So no pets wandering around. Or foliage blowing in the breeze, etc.

I got away with varying brightness in my “Grandad’s Vanishing Trick” (with the pole of a rotary washing line as the ‘divider’), as my viewing audience were my grandsons.

Thanks, everyone. Those tutorial videos pretty much worked. I need to change some camera angles, but the effect will work. Thanks again.

@derek-williams

In the image below, I used a black & white (chromakey alpha) mask with a slight transition zone; this was to hide a slight difference in lighting.

Track 1 is the left part, track 4 is the right part.

Hi. So it worked for the most part, but my sectioning part has a black spot after I make it into a video. On the program, it looks fine (for a quick test job), but on playback, it isn't showing up. I tried both videos as backgrounds to see which worked better. Here is an example of what I mean. Any (more) help would be appreciated again. I tried to google the answer, but couldn't find it.

Here is the magix playback

Here is the video after creation.

And here is another example.

Here is what I've done:

1. Played around the "section" section

2. Made sure nothing was muted

3. Made both videos are bright as can be

Hi Derek.

Looking at John CB's examples for split screen work in your instance will not work and would require another three additional steps or moving of the camera between takes which is not ideal for this effect. I can explain why later if needed but I have to work now for a while. In the mean time if you have the effect I mention in your other thread it is a much less time consuming way of achieving this.

Ray.
