I'm guessing you are using Magix Movie Studio? In VPX14, I didn't have to purchase anything to display and edit the same footage from my G9 in it. UHD 4K 4:2:2 10bit 150Mbps. I shoot a lot at that setting.

I do know that MEP 2022 will not import that same footage.

BTW, I do love my G9. I've had it for many years and it just keeps on working.

Hi Reyfox,

Thanks for your message. Actually, I am using Video Pro X 11. Perhaps the codec is included in the later versions? I love the G9 as well and think it's great that it continues to improve with firmware updates.

Reyfox Posté à 14/03/2024 18:24

@terrerad maybe Magix will have a Humble Bundle on VPX like they did last year. I got VPX14 for $25 along with some music stuff that I am not interested in. So sign up it costs nothing and they always have something on sale.

Hi

. . . . Perhaps the codec is included in the later versions? . . . .

I no longer have it installed, I am on VPX 15, however from the manual the AVC-Intra codec has to be purchased, this also applies to all versions of VPX from VPX 4 to VPX15 as shown in the image below.

@Reyfox

Hi

. . . . In VPX14, I didn't have to purchase anything to display and edit the same footage from my G9 . . . .

Do you have any Panasonic software installed that came with the G9, if so it may have installed the codecs and VPX has picked them up?

@johnebaker, no, I do not have any Panasonic software installed. Never have. And since you say there was a fee required from VPX4 onward, I can't say that it came with VPX12.

I did nothing special nor bought anything to put the UHD 4K 422 10bit footage on the timeline. MEP2022 won't do it.

It is a MOV file and I do have Quicktime 7.7 Player installed.

Can you analyse the video file with MediaInfo and post the results, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required. Do ensure the results are from the Text view.

. . . . surprised when the requirement for the AVCIntra Encoder Upgrade . . . .

That is odd!

Do you have Quicktime installed? If not download and install it, only install the Essentials and Player components these should be preselected in the Custom install, and try importing the video again.

@Reyfox

Hi

The video is 'standard' AVC/h.264 at a very high bitrate due to the profile level being high quality at 5.1.

The encoding is standard GOP structure, however it is not All-Intra, therefore no AVC-Intra decoder needed.

From the M=1 N=12 values, the M value is the distance between two 'anchor frames which can be I or P frames, the N value refers to the distance between two full I-Frames.

This means the GOP structure is 1 I-frame followed by 11 P-Frames, ie IPPPPPPPPPPP, there are no B-frames.

@terrerad

@Marc-Goder @terrerad

Hi Marc, Dan

I suspect that, as both videos you have supplied MediaInfo data for, have the same encoding method, ie Sliced frame encoding, they require a more advanced decoder to deal with the slices.

. . . . I know this file is longGOP . . . .

The file is within the range for 'normal' GOP length, the N value in the data is how many frames are in each GOP - which is normally one half of, and up to, the frame rate of the video.

Long GOP is a very loose term, generally considered to be a N value that is higher than the framerate, though some camera manufacturers such as Canon and Panasonic do call a N=15, or greater, 'Long GOP'.

Hi @johnebaker ,

Thank you for the distinction regarding GOP. Even though there may be a different number of delta frames in the codec the G9 produces it is still not all-intra which the name of the add on codec suggests. I will have to determine if it is worth purchasing or just using another editor. Thanks again to everyone for all the assistance.

Reyfox Posté à 16/03/2024 19:47

@terrerad I still find it strange that my files I am able to import into VPX14 without issue. Looking at your MediaInfo and mine, there is no difference expect frame rate. So I thought I would try one of the 23.97fps videos, and they went without any problem. I never paid for any additional codec.

Do you have a short sample of one of your clips that do not work, and upload it to the cloud?

The only way to know for sure is to uninstall all that software and start from the beginning with VPX to see if it works. But I am not about to do that. Or... upload a short clip and see if others with VPX "only" can import it.

Hi

Can you upload a short ~ 30 sec video clip to Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox or other file sharing site, and post the link,for us to test.

I would agree with @Marc-Goder comment that there is some software on your computer that is providing the necessary codec to decode the video on your computer.

From the list of editors you have given - my prime suspect would be Resolve.

Hi @Reyfox , @johnebaker , @Marc-Goder , @CubeAce ,

Curiouser and curiouser. The fact that Reyfox was able to add this file format successfully to the timeline without issue gave me the motivation to try again. I also had Video Pro X (same version and patches) installed on an older machine with my second activation and when I added the file to the timeline the program downloaded and installed the AVC-Intra codec without the requestor to pay for it?! The file plays back flawlessly and I really want this working on my primary machine but I can certainly live with this outcome.

Hi

. . . . . Curiouser and curiouser . . . . .

The question is what is the difference between the 2 PC's that enables import?

After more testing, I can import Sliced AVC 4:2:0 video into VPX and MMS with no issue, this leads me to wonder if this a 4:2:2 / MOV import issue.

@johnebaker when I get back from church, I send a short file to my G-drive for downloading. My files are 10bit 4:2:2 MOV. The same ones that @terrerad is having issues with. And since he was able to get the files to play back a second computer, there might be something different on his primary computer.
