ok I just recently bought this and I cant edit my.mp4 files or my .mov files I have no thumb nail yet my .avi files work perfectly this is for movie edit pro why is this and when i do try to make a video all i get is audio .

It would be very useful to know exactly which version and variant of this you have bought. Especially since the problem of no thumbnails and no video suggests your system lacks the codecs necessary to play these files and show their thumbnails.
Please download and install the free MediaInfo utility, point it to one of your mp4 and one of your .MOV files and show the results of the Text view here.
For your .MOV files, do you have any "version" of QuickTime installed?

Do you mean the preview monitor is black?
Without knowing your computer specification - see here for details of what is required - I suspect you have an AMD processor or an Intel processor without an integrated GPU.
Try turning of the Hardware acceleration for Preview and Hardware encoding for export options in Program Settings, Import / Export tab.

unfortunatly this appeared to be a graphics card problem only got a new graphics card last week and evrything seems to be sorted for now apart from some error fault dumps whitch ime trying to sort now thankyou
