TK2 instead of TAK destroys takes functions and introduces a bug.

I've been working with the takes function in MEP 2013, and an#m now tryin g to use them in 2014.

The format has changed to the same format as VEP X5 and the shortcut files now have the extension TK2 rather than TAK.

OK so far, but:unless I'm doing something wrong -

  • With TK2 files you don't get a thumbnail display, just the clapperboard icon
  • You don't get the red dot showing that the take has been included in a movie.
  • If you rename a take, the name isn't used on the timeline or storyboard when you place it into a movie.

This is a huge regression in functionality and makes using takes of questionable value, to say the least.

It looks to me as if all this functionality exists with TK2 files in VEP X5 when you place them in the Project folder and dispaly or use them there. However, MEP 2014 doen't display a project folder window - you are stuck with looking at takes in the Import window.

Even if you can live with all that, there is a bug in Storyboard mode:

  • Open the Demo project files in the Media poll (or just use any other two files)
  • Drag them to the movie and select them both.
  • Use the context menu to Save objects as takes.
  • Clear the movie and switch to storyboard mode.
  • Drag (don't send) the first take to the storyboard.
  • Now drag the second take to the end of the storyboard.
  • You get THREE clips - the first clip being only one frame long.

Can anyone elase reproduce this please?

Hi,

You are right. The first clip is actually 2 frames so far as I can tell, even though it says one.

You are right about the red dot on the take not showing up, but at least the red dot shows up on the source file. Not seeing the thumbnail is very annoying and makes the takes almost unusable. I renamed the take and when I brought it into Storyboard, the name shown was the original name and the red dot showed up on the correct source file, but not on the take. Just renaming the take does not let me know if I actually used it, because the name in the project is not the name of the take, and there is no red dot. In MEP 2013, renaming the take and bringing it into Storyboard shows the new name and red dots on the take and on the original file.

The additional problem is that the first take brought in becomes the third object and the second take added becomes the second object. The first object, the 1 or 2 frame clip is from the first take dragged in.

Add in a third take, and it jumps to the front, into position 2, and the first object is still the same image. Thus the takes are entered backwards.

I tried a few more combinations and the results are strange.

Dragging the second take to the first position does not cause a third object to be created, but adding another take to the end does cause another object to be created.

Scene overview mode has the same problem. At least the timeline mode does not have this problem.

I installed the latest patch, 13.0.1.4, and the problem is still there.

This much be a bug. I presume that you will report this to Magix?

John

Thanks for checking it's not just me!

Yes, I've sent a support request mirroring this post.

I didn't actually go much further with adding more takes, but you are correct - it's even more broken that I thought it was.

There are two issues here. If I use Send to rather than Drag and drop the takes seem OK, but between all the issues I think they have made the takes function virtuall unusable.

If you open a TAK file from a 2013 project in 2014, it works!

If you are looking at interlaced material and have Automatic interlace processing checked, you are probaly seeing two distinct fields when you jog. I'm not sure if this is new to 2014, or perhaps the default settings have changed from 2013?

Magix support have replicated these issues in house and fowarded them to Development.
