Magix Photostory on DVD MX - MPEG-2 is not available due to licensing conditions

robandsherri1 wrote on 4/13/2013, 11:04 AM

Running Windows 8, and recently bought Photostory on DVD MX...when I'm ready to burn the slide to a DVD it gives me the error message that MPEG-2 is not available due to licensing conditions...I read how to update the codec and actually purchase them. I was able to buy and download it for MPEG-4, but it didn't allow me to for MPEG-2.

I also ran the updates for the program and also used the repair function on the software dvd. Does Magix have some issue running programs on Windows 8 or am I doing something wrong...The software is registered and activated on Magix.com. My next step I suppose is to uninstall and try re-installing it. Anyone have any advice??? Thanks!

Hi

Normally dragging a mpg file to the timeline will activate the licence dialog for the mpg codec.  If this happened and you dismissed the dialog then it may not re-appear.

Under Help you should have a Activate additional functions option - with an Activate mpg option - use this to activate the licence which is free for all versions of Photostory MX.

On my version, it's not under help to activate addiction functions. I have to go to FILE, EXPORT, the MPEG-2. I tried it for MPEG-4 and was able ot purchse the licence, but it wouldn't let me do if for MPEG-2, It acted like there was licensing problems with MAGIX and the MPEG-2 codec.

Dragging a mpg file to the timelime didn't bring up a dialog box as well....any other ideas??

Hi

. . . . I have to go to FILE, EXPORT, the MPEG-2 . . . .

Does that mean the activate mpg dialog box is appearing?

If so check you do you have a Firewall running eg Windows Defender, Norton Security Suite, McAfee Security suite etc.  They may be blocking the Internet access for the activation.

Is doesn't give it the option to appear, when I choose MPEG-4 is asks to activate, which I did for like 5 bucks just to see if it would help, but when I choose MPEG-2, it says something about not able to avtivate to due to licening conditions....I haven't checked all my anti-virus and norton stuff, but really, I'm not really running much as far as fire walla and anti-virus right now...

Hi

. . . . .  not able to avtivate to due to licening conditions . . . .

AFAIK the only time that message will appear is if you are running the trial version of the software.  If you have bought and activated / entered the serial number of the software, then the message should go away.

Check the program is actually registered by logging on to your account, at magix.com, ( My Account - top right ) using the email address and password you registered with.

You will see the option My Products  - this will show you your registered software.

. . . .  anti-virus and norton stuff . . .

Which are you using ? Please give full names.

It's registered online and activated. I even uninstalled and re-installed it. I checked my account online as well...it was there. Still nothing...doesn't even give me an option to either buy the codec or the software if it thought my was a trial version. An no anti-virus is running currently...I'm temped to call magix support, but it's like $13 for a voucher...I'm kind of at a loss at this point.
