Magix MEP Plus Any Version - Chapter Marker Titles In Time Line View

Whalebat wrote on 10/2/2012, 9:10 AM

What's the character limitation for the chapter tiltles.

Sometimes When I enter them they are cut short.

It's a pity because when I go to DVD menu mode it creates more work adding the missing characters.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks In advance

Hi Whalebat,

Not sure I fully understand. Are these chapters in a project containing a single movie, i.e. a series of chapter markers on the timeline? Are the chapter markers named or not? Presumably you first enter the chapter titles in DVD mode using Properties for each button? You say these get 'cut short' when you enter them? To what length? But only 'sometimes'? And what do you do then?

Is this with any DVD template in any version of MEP, e.g MEP16, 17, MX and 2013?

And I'm puzzled by 'when I go into DVD mode...' because the above implies that you're already in that mode?

Maybe a screenshot or two would help us to fully grasp the problem.

Terry.

think what Whalebat is doing is creating the Chapter Marks on the timeline and then right-clicking each marker and choosing the option to "Rename".  Sometimes, and I haven't experimented enough to discover at what "number of letters", when you subsequently open the DVD Burn screen, the program has chosen to "truncate" the previously set names.

However, I see the wisdom of what I think is your workflow, which is to "name" the chapters only on that DVD Burn screen, thus avoiding the problem completely.

Hi Jeff,

That's what it rather sounded like, yes. I'd never used chapter marker names before, but tried it earlier today. However, the names I assigned did not get defined as chapter titles in Burn mode. Do they for you? The default title names appeared to be ones I'd entered in some earlier session. And you're exactly right about my approach. I've always just entered them in Burn mode using the Properties dialog. My 139 character test example caused no problem, although I'm not sure why I'd ever want quite that many. (Pleased to see our smileys are back!)

That long name for my chapter marker was displayed, but when I tried to save the project it crashed MEP 2013. Repeated that twice. Then tried 30 characters, which didn't cause a crash but on re-opening the name had been truncated to 21 characters.

Hello Terry

I enter Chapter titles as I go in the Timeline Edit Mode

Right Click the chapter marker  Tophat and enter chapter title (name).

I then format them int the DVD Menu Mode.... font size etc.... via properties.

Thanks or your response.

Hi All

IIRC once you override the chapter title in the Burn menu it is that title that 'sticks' for that project irrespective of the timeline names.

Hi John,

Exactly. As I reported up-thread the chapter marker names are limited to 21 characters, and apart from the time between initially entering their names to replace the blank default (if you do that) then they have no further effect on the chapter titles once you've entered them in the usual way in Burn mode using the Properties dialog.
