I updated to ACL 2014 (having used ACL for many years, updating every now and then) and no longer seem to be able to access the various mastering components other than accept the presets. Is this intentional by Magix or am I missing something?

Audio Cleaning Lab 2014 on a Windows 8(64) desktop PC 16gb ram, fast Intel processor, but not touch-screen.

Also, I get a random ocurring /bug/problem when using stop/start on playback which causes left-hand or right-hand channel (sometimes even both) to go silent. Repeat press on spacebar, and/or the onscreen transport buttons usually brings back proper stereo, but I can't see any pattern to the bug.

Hi John,

See this thread and the link to another one.

Magix removed things from ACL2014, like the ability to access the parameters of the tools and some buttons like scrubbing and fast forward, in order to make the program less complicated. They have been advised that this was not a good idea. They also took advantage of this version to release Audio & Music Lab 2014 Premium, which does allow access to the parameters of the tools and also contains some interesting eFx plugins. It also loads the video portion of video files, and in this sense replaces Video Sound Cleaning Lab 2014, which was a total disaster.

I suggest that you continue using a previous version or upgrade to AML2014 Premium. You might want to try it first.

John,

Consider this question (retorical answer...) :
"When I upgraded from 2013 edition to 2014 edition (paying every year for an upgrade, almost the same amount), I receive a DOWNgrade instead of a UPgrade. I receive LESS instead of the same functionality. How is that a acceptable marketing strategy?"

The answer lies -hopefully- within a very long conversation with Magix support.

Hi,

I'm glad that others are complaining. One of my worries with new versions is what has been removed. It seems that there is no longer much room for improvement, so they play with the interface, ultimately making it worse.

The worst example is Video Sound Cleaning Lab 2014 vs the first version 1.0 which was also the only. And only previous version. They removed the ability to open the detailed parameters and there was nothing new that I could find. Worse, they removed the detailed spectral cleaning tool whic was excellent. Lastly, it doesn't work from within Movie Edit Pro whereas the previous version worked perfectly. I keep reminding the good fellows that answer our queries at Magix that VSCL2014 was a total embarrassment which never should have been released.

On the good side, AML2014 is quite good and I am happy with the additional eFX tools. The only drawback is that it doesn't work either from within Movie Edit Pro, although going through the external route can actually give a better result.  But, it is definitely a step up from ACL2013.

Good luck with Magix.
