How to Name Tracks

hohi1 wrote on 3/14/2014, 7:49 AM

When we want to make wav. file in MMM Premium, what should we do to add track name, album, & other information?

As we can see in the picture below, when we make 'raw' wav. file using MMM, the track name & other track information are missing, (see red arrow), compared with the green one.

So what steps do we take to add track information when we export as wav.file?

Thank you.

Hi,

This information cannot be entered in MMM Premium during Export. You need to use Magix Music Editor 3 that comes with MMM Premium. When your songs are ready for export, from the top menu bar, click on Effects, Audio, Edit Effects in External Editor. This should open Music Editor. Once there your can set up your song markers, press the key "L" to open the track manager, and enter the ID3 information.

Music Editor 3 should be the default editor under Program settings, Folder, Audio editor. If it is not, then navigate to it to add it. I have Audio Cleaning Lab 2013 so I use it instead as it has more features.

John,

As I'm still learning the program I often try the techniques you recommend.  I did that with this recommendation because I don't think I've ever activated Music Editor in my copy of MM Premium 2014.  When I did that the image shows the results I got.  As you'll note I don't see an option to open Music Editor.  Any advice on what I might be doing wrong?

Hopefully there is enough detail in the image for you to see my results.

Thanks.

Dave,

You were close. On the second pop-down, go to the very bottom and select "Edit audio in external editor." This should open Music Editor and send your object to it for editing.

However, I did some more research and there is an intermediate step. The above will only send the selected object to Music Editor. You want to send the entire project to it.

You first have to compile the audio and then send the result to Music Editor. There is information on page 268 in the manual that states "Edit audio objects in external editors - Converts your project into WAV format and sends it directly to one of the specified programs where it can be edited further." However, it does not say how to do it. This is actually under Share and there you will see a second line that says "Edit project in external program." When I select this, it sends my project to Samplitude Music Studio, which is not what I want. Unfortunately the manual does not properly document the correct steps.

To compile the audio, go to Edit, Track, Compile audio (Ctrl+Shift+G). Give the file a name. I just use the default name but you can give it another name. This will create one object out of your project and replace all of the tracks by one object on track one. This is not a destructive mode and you can undo it. However, I suggest that you save your project with a different name first, as a second step, because the next step could be destructive. This way, you will have your original composition and then the final result with a different filename.

Now with the one object on the screeen, select it and do Ctrl+Shift+M (or Effects, Audio, Edit audio in external editor) and the file should open in Music Editor. Once you have completed everything in Music Editor, which could include creating additional editing, cleaning, mastering, creation of MP3 files with ID3 tags, you can either return the result to MMM or first save the file as a virtual project.

I suggest that you save the work that you did in Music Editor 3 by going to File, Save virtual project, giving it a name and saving it. This is important because it will contain all of the changes that you do in ME3 including track markers and names. You can skip this if you do not need it, but if you save it, you can always reload the virtual project in ME3 and modify your tracks.

If you do not do this, then any work that you did in ME3 cannot be edited as you will see below.

Once you have saved the virtual project, close ME3 by clicking on the X at the upper right and the program will ask if you want to save the project. This is not the same as saving the virutual project. Accept this. It will create a wav file (check the folder and you will see it) and also return the result of what you did in Music Editor to MMM. Do some wild tests to confirm this. You can still undo the result in MMM. I suggest that you now save this so that you don't lose the editing that you did.

If you want to go back to ME3 because you forgot something or even if you want to change the name of the track, if you do the same procedure, select the object, Ctrl+Shift+M to open ME3, you will see that no tracks are shown and any cleaning and mastering parameters that you had done previously are not shown. What you did is in the result of the file only. However, if you had saved the project as a virtual file, go to File, Load project, select your virtual project and either save or don't save the wave file as requested by the dialog box, and your previous ME3 will now appear with all of the editing and parameters that you did previously.

You need to do some experimenting with test projects to get your workflow sorted out before attacking a real project.

I hope I didn't confuse you too much. If I have time, I will make a video tutorial of this.
