Divide long MP4 into clips?

SorchaR wrote on 3/14/2014, 8:29 PM

Hi. I'm using Movie Edit Pro Plus 16, and I'm going to be editing a small project from long MP4 files. Trying to work from the full-length MP4 is too much for my computer, and I've tried splitting it and then exporting the smaller files back into MP4 but the program crashes. Is there a function somewhere in the program to divide source video into smaller video files?

Hi,

I'm not really clear what you mean. Presumably you have the whole file successfully impored onto the timeline? Now what? Are you stepping through it, extracting sections for your short video using the cut tool? If so, presumably you are deleting the unwanted sections as you proceed? Is that a problem?

Are you using an additional movie (via Manage Movies) to which you are copy/pasting your wanted sections? Consider using several such additional movies, avoiding any need for export and re-import.

More detail needed for practical help.

Hi

Assuming you can play the movie full length from the Import tab pane.  You do not have to load the full movie into MEP or do any splitting prior to import into MEP,.

To get the sections you want, you can use the Preview monitor and In / Out points as follows:

Click the movie in the Media pool and play it using the transport controls below the preview monitor ie press the play button or drag the timeline marker (orange triangle) under the monitor pane to the start of the section you want

Press the I key or click the button. to the left of the play button

Continue to play the clip or drag the time pointer (orange triangle) to the end of the section you want

Press the O key or click the } button

You should now have a range selected as indicated by the blue bar above the transport controls.

In the preview window left click on the video and holding the mouse button down, drag the video on to the timeline.

Repeat this for all the sections you need.

If there are a lot of sections keep saving the project regularly.

You can then complete you project adding any transitions, effects etc you need

HTH
