Cannot play blu-ray disc on blu-ray player

sensfan wrote on 3/8/2015, 1:35 PM

I have burned a blu-ray movie in MPEG-2 format, NTSC 1920x1080. See below.

I burns successfully, but I cannot play it on my brand new blu-ray player (Sony BDPBX120). I just got it and updated the firmware. It supports MPEG-2.  I am stumped. After buying a blu-ray burner, BD-R discs (TDK if that makes a difference), I am left extremely frustrated.

I am  using Movie Edit Pro 17. Do I need an upgrade? I shouldn't, as the 1920x1080 option is there and that's what is supported.

Thank you in advance.

Hi

The dialog box you have posted above does not belong to any of the disc burning options, either DVD or BD in my  MEP 17

Can you give us more information on how you are burning to Blu-ray.

Are you dong this from MEP's Burn tab?

Which options are you selecting?

This continues a rather frustrating thread here: http://www.magix.info/en/burning-a-blu-ray-disc.knowledge.1124549.html

I am burning the movie from MEP's burn tab. From there I click the burn icon on the right side. Then I select blu-ray. For the encoder settings I am picking the one showed in my previous graphic, i.e. 1920x1080. I click OK and then go back to the BD Burning window within MEP.  Then I click option 3 to start the burn process.

The first movie I did was too large to fit on one BD, so I shortened it in the hopes that it would make a difference. I am in the process of completing this task, but I don't hold much hope.

Thanks for answering.

Hi

Unless you have a very specific reason for using the MPEG-2 format you should use the H.264 encoder for BD discs - this is supported by all BD players.

Try burning using the H.264 format.

AFAICS the BDPBX120 player requires BD discs to be in this format.

The player does support MPEG-2 format but not as a BD disc - rather as a MPEG file copied to disc or to a USB device which you then plug in to the player - however you will get no menus, chapters..

I will try this. Sony told me H.264 format was not supported, but I will try this and post my result. Thank you so much.

I attempted to do this. At some point during the process, the blu-ray burnder opened. The disc was in it at the time. I closed it and then saw the space indicator on the disc. Then as it was about to finish, I got this error:

I opened the log, but it doesn't mean much to me. The BD just had a circle around it and that was it. I will attempt to do it again overnight.  This is a brand new burner, so should not have any issues!

The blu-ray works using H.264. Thank you!!! I can even play it on my original blu-ray, so I can return the one I just bought. This forum is fantastic. Thank you to all the people who h ave posted responses to my questions. It took a long time to get it all, but I'm so happy now!
