Burning Movie to DVD

meymatt wrote on 12/13/2014, 8:47 AM

This is my first attempt with Movie Edit Pro and I am having a problem when burning my movie to a DVD to make it compatible with my DVD player.

I get the message in the screenshot below when I try to burn the movie to a blank DVD.  I can successfully burn files to the DVD when I select the Use All button, but when the burning process is complete, the DVD will not play on my DVD player.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

Re that MEP message, I'm sure you've seen by now that its text (the only imporant part) is unreadable. You could have avoided that by cropping your full screen capture. However, I recognise it anyway, as this question crops up fairly often. Here's a readable example:

To be sure, encode the whole video and menu again, as I've shown. With growing confidence later you may want to use the other options to avoid unnecessary re-processing.

But that may not be the root of your problem. To eliminate MEP's physical burn process as a cause, can you successfully play the DVD folder automatically created by MEP, located as specified in the Folder tab of Program Settings?

Or for better quality:

I never burn from MEP, which I've found unreliable. When the message appears asking me to insert a disc, I click Cancel. Then I check that the DVD folder automatically rendered by MEP plays OK. I use VLC for that, but use whatever suitable player you prefer. Then I finally burn it with the versatile and reliable (and free) burner ImgBurn.

Hi

. . . . burning my movie to a DVD to make it compatible with my DVD player. . . . .

Providing you get no error messages during the encoding and burn stages, then the most likely cause is a compatability issue with DVD players and the DVD discs themselves.

Unbranded discs tend to be of variable quality and reliability.

Best to use well known brands such as Verbatim, Sony, Maxell etc.

For my initial burns I use DVD-RW (for DVD) or BD-RE (for BD) discs.  This saves money because they can be re-used.

Once I get the disc as I require, often you may find you want to make minor changes to the video when you see it on a big screen, then I use a disc copy software to copy the DVD-RW (BD-RE) to final disc.

I also create a master disc for future copying if I need to and archive the complete project.

HTH

John

I have the same problem and the root of the issue is that MEP burns discs to the PAL format, even when you select the NTSF format. PAL discs wont play on American DVD players.  I have no idea how to fix it, but I just contacted their customer support tonight. I'm hopeful that they will come up with a solution.

Hi,

Did you check the additional settings we've suggested in earlier posts on this related subject? For example see this illustration I posted 12th December:

Possibly your project setting (press the E key) was inadvertently set to a PAL configuration? If so, and the Auto option was somehow set, that would result in your DVD being PAL too.

Did you also follow-up the suggestions made by Jeff and Peter in this thread:

I see there's been no feedback from the OP in the 16 days since we suggested a possible solution.

@Terry, disappointing/rude isn't it?  Even if the ideas presented don't actually solve the original problem it would be very useful to posters and viewers/lurkers to learn the outcome!
