rendering in Movie edit pro 2017 very slow

hfrbe wrote on 9/19/2016, 7:56 AM

just upgraded to the latest 2017 version

but the rendering of a project is realy very slow

I'm aware my pc is 6 years old, but rendereing in the previous version was faster

Even the preview is very slow , I didn't had this before

For MP4 I can't choose the codec anymore

I think before you could choose Mainconcept codec

Hi

Is your PC 64bit?

You need to purchase the Main concept  codec and you might find rendering faster with that. The default Intel codec is about 5 times slower than MC during software export (i.e. without the aid of Quicksync or Cuda Hardware acceleration) on my machine.

Some more detail on your computer specs. and type of material in the project would be helpful.

thanks answering

indeed it's 64 bit - windows 10

pc already 6 years old; Core I5-2300 with 8GB ram

problem is I can't find out how to order the mainconcept codec

following the manual :

1.
Open the menu "Help" > "Install additional programs".
2.
Select "MainConcept MPEG-4 codec"

but in the new version I only have "Install extra content" and even there I don't have the option of codec installation

If you have a previous version of MEP which contained the Mainconcept encoder you can enable it in new versions using the following trick courtesy of Holger W in the German forum:-

what you do is install your copy of a 32 bit version, in my case MEP2014, then activate the MPEG2 codec by opening the HDV record window. This prompts you do download the MPEG2 Codec and activate, and because this was free along with the MC MPEG4 codec in those versions, this sequence then allows you to download the MC Mpeg4 codec after setting up to encode an MPEG4 in 2014 following the subsequent prompts. Because these codecs are then present on your 64bit machine you can access them via MEP2016 and presumably 2017,VPX7, and VPX8 which I believe now requires you to buy even the Mpeg2 codec.

Thanks for the answer

I already had movie edit pro 2015 with installed mainconcept codec

problem is in the 2017 version there is no option to choose the codec

I already opened a ticket but we are turning around :)

Hi

. . . . in the 2017 version there is no option to choose the codec . . .

Did you check the Import/Export tab are two drop downs to change to the codec.

Hi John

thanks answering

but I'm sorry I don't have these tabs

I think cause the codec isn't installed and I don't have any possibbility to install

but it's installed on my computer cause it's there in the 2015 version

but no way to install or activate it in the 2017 version; support can't give me an answer :)

Never the less, did you try my procedure?

Because 2015 made you buy the codec it is probably specific to that version. In 2014 and earlier the codecs were free and installed universally making themselves available to the later versions. Also the sequence of activation with the MPEG2 first may be important. Worth a try!

I re)installed the 2014 version again

but since this was installed before on my pc, it won't ask me again to install the codes

I can just export to mpeg-2 and mp4 without any question
