CAUTION - Magix Video Pro X6 and NewBlueFX

mrveronn wrote on 2/18/2014, 1:59 AM

Got a note from Magix support saying that since X6 is 64bit only, the NewBlueFX plug ins will not work. I have about $700 worth of their plug-ins and this is a small problem for me...

Would be nice if they (both Magix and NewblueFX) had thought to advise customers of this...

I am aware that Newblue has 64bit versions for Sony Vegas...so maybe this will be coming for X6...but for the moment, don't uninstall X5 if you have projects that need NewblueFX software...

Hey, long time since we heard from you

I don't use Video Pro X and still churning out my stuff on an XP 32-bit quad core. But now that I see the extent of your investment in it, I'm going to take another look at MEP 2014's NewBlueFX stuff!

Hope to see you around here more often?

Hey Terry, yea, always been a bit weak for the shiny new gadget (hard- or software).

In this case jumped in without doing my homework. Anyway, got an e-mail from NewblueFX tech support. They do offer 64bit versions of their plug-ins (for sony vegas for example) and so I'm left with the impression that 64bit for Magix will come along (noteably absent was any speculation about release date).  But I still have X5 running with all plug-ins blazing...(blush, also have the Pixelan plug-ins in X5, and they show up in X6)...so I'm good to go with my editing...and to be honest, I did open up a few projects in X6 and (brace yourself) I was not (repeat not) thrown back against my chair with any great sensation of speedier performance...so going from 32bit to 64bit does not seem to yield any great benefits with my 90 minutes soccer (er, football) games that my son is having fun playing...

I do have 12GB of memory that should be sitting there waiting to cradle my (amazing) footage of the games, but at the moment nothing wonderful seems to be happening with X6.

A bit belated happy new year...hope you and yours are doing well...cheers, Michael

same here. But what's not acceptable in my case is, that the plugins purchased at MAgix like variverb even don't work anymore. I've spent over 1000$ for plugins. So no way to move on to version 6 before this is not solved.

Hi Michael,

You say that the Pixelan plugins work. I have only installed the trial version of X6 and I see the effects plugins but not theTransition effects (Fades in MEP2014). There is no "Additional fades" item under transitions. This may be due to the trial version, but I am not sure. I have Pixelan 3D Six-Pack, DissolveMaster, SpiceMaster, and also proDad Adorage. Can you confirm if these work in X6?

Thanks,

@ browj2, ah, I had not noticed that. You are correct, ... the Pixelan transition effects are not showing in X6. I haven't installed Adorage, so can't comment on that...

Michael,

Thanks for the quick reply. I have asked Pixelan about this and I will post their reply. This may be the determining factor for me about purchasing (upgrading to) X6. Not much time left at the discount price.

Regards,

Hi,

There is a posting from Pixelan in the Discussion part of this Forum. According to their information, Magix is working on a patch to get plugins to work with X6 64 bit. What this will cover remains to be seen. We can only hope....and remind Magix.

I purchased X6 hoping that the plugins will be made to work soon.

This is so frustrating... I have used Newblue FX with Prox4 & x5 without issues.. Well the only issue is being 32bit and only working in CPU mode and not the faster GPU mode. Was sop looking forward to X6 and 64bit but now my main plugin do not work which is ridiculous. Why in the world have Magix and Newblue not talked to each other and sorted it prior to release. Im sitting on this Upgrade off which runs out in a few days. I wrefuse to pay FULL price for pro x but the upgrade price is acceptable but only if they get this plugin business sorted. At the very leasted they shoulds make an official statement on the situation...I have been a Magix user of Video deluxe 17 Plus, Movie Edit Pro MX Premium Pro x4 and Pro x5 so have invested a fair amount of money time and loyalty into Magix... i hope they come good

pawgan wrote on 3/1/2014, 10:03 AM

Just had this email from Newblue.. So good news but unknown lead time...Could be soon could be months away but at least they are on it

" our plugins are not yet compatible with 64-bit Magix. I know they will be at some point but I cannot give you a timeframe at this time"

mrveronn wrote on 3/1/2014, 2:11 PM

Well, thanks everyone, we've gotten a response, and so fingers crossed that we're looking a weeks, rather than months. And at least the X6 information site now informs about the lack of 32bit plugin support...in the meantime, I'm using X5 for all my projects and X6 is just gathering dust.

gveenendaal wrote on 3/23/2014, 12:22 PM

Yep same problem here, lost my "Extra Effects" video plugins manager is empty in X6, where in X5 the "deinterlace area based v1.4" plugin did a wonderful job on digitized super 8 material where horizontal stripes were solved. Spend € 200,- on this update and € 250 on moving from the consumer Magix 2014 to X5. Above that X6 is crashing every 12 minutes so extra Ctrl-S is needed if you don't want to lose work. Just one advantage, the Music Maker movie edition that came along with this upgrades is nice

mrveronn wrote on 3/23/2014, 1:42 PM

@gveenendaal...sorry to hear about the issues, I haven't been using X6 yet...just working with X5 and all my plug ins..., but I will be very dissapointed if I get the same crashing...X5 is fragile enough...I'm a "frequent flyer" sending in at least one crash report a week to Magix...and I have a routine of saving "drafts" in a project so that if get an unrecoverable error, I only lose a bit of work...

Correction about variverb II from Magix on Video Pro X6: It works -  I had just some troubles with the configuration, no more an issue. Only the newblue FX plugins are until now not available as 64bit versions third party vendor.

mrveronn wrote on 12/2/2014, 1:45 AM

I understand from NewBlueFX that they will be releasing a 'consumer' version of their plug ins...their web site now makes no mention of Magix anywhere...it is not listed as a suitable host NLE...but if they do deliver on this version of their plugs ins....fingers crossed.

I've been given a few installers to try and when you proceed Magix is listed twice, first is the 32 bit and second is the 64bit. I've installed the (probably beta) plug ins and they show up in both Video Pro X5 and X6 and work fine.

Some plug ins are still missing (e.g. light blends) but I am now hopefull that I can complete the transition from X5 to X6 and retain the over $1,000 that I've invested in NewBlueFX plug ins...

Titler Pro may or may not make the cut...no installer for X6 yet...
