2014 MP4 export slower than 2013?

I just exported my first project with MEP 2014 and it took about 20% longer than MEP 2013.

It was a small project, 3:49 in length.

Source material covered a range, including JPGs, MOV movie clips, AVI (FRAPS) video from Google Earth, with several collages, multiple tracks, etc. Project settings: 1920 x1080,16:9, 25 fps.

2013: MP4 = 548 MB and took 12:30

2014: MP4 = 546 MB and took 15:07

Export settings were identical:

Note that as usual (in both versions) I was unable to use the Hardware Acceleration option for export because that gives the familiar and unhelpful 'unknown error':

Any comments, explanations or feedback on similar comparisons would be much appreciated please.

PC: Quad Core 2.66 GHz, 4 GB, 512 MB nVIDIA GeoForce 8800GT, running XP (SP3).

Feedback from Magix:

I discussed the possibility of such a performance drop for MPEG-4 encoding with our developers today and they confirmed that it might very well be possible and this program component was worked on for the current release. We will keep our eyes on the situation, but at the moment the assumption is that the drop in performance you are experiencing might be an side effect of optimisations for newer and more representative and popular CPU architectures (i.e. probably i7 generation Intel machines). Such a necessary move might, unfortunately, bring such side effects with it. We can only keep our eyes on this situation and similiar feedback at the moment. Thanks for your understanding.

I didn't time it, but it the mp4 export seems slower to me, too. Thanks for copying the reply from Magix.

I have doing some speed checks comparing a single project on different versions of MEP, exporting using the same settings for the program and the export and got the following results:

Test project - composed of 12 AVCHD files, one title and cross fade and through black transitions - length 2:26:22 (3672 frames)

All versions set to use HWA where possible - VPX 4 does not appear to use/support HWA on my PC!!!

Export settings - HDTV 1920*1080 25fps H.264

MEP version render framerate mp4 Main Concept

17 32 178MB 8.0.5.14265

MX 26.6 178MB 8.0.5.14625

2013 48.9 109MB 9.5.7.2154

The interesting result is MEP 2013 - it rendered the fastest and produced a much smaller file yet used the same encoder a 2014 !!!

I'm sticking with MEP 2014 Premium, at least for now, but hopefully others may have similar performance stats.
